Still on the ecig, not touched the baccy, lowering my nicotine dosage as much as I can. Even if I waste some juice on the way, it'll be worth it. Just got some 0mg strength stuff to mix my current 12mg down a bit.

UPDATE: Nearly 5 weeks on the E Cig now, not a single analogue ciggie for me or the wife since we started. Started on 1.8% strength and on the last day or so of 1.4%. 1.0% ready to go next. Definitely feeling the positive difference, and seeing the benefits when out on a ride (when the weather permits!) Started putting £100 a week in the savings account as that is what our habit was costing us. Looks like this years diving trip to Egypt will be covered by it with plenty left for possible upgrades

I think I may start again so when I give up I can start putting the money into cycling. Think I missed the trick there
Or can I claim that the hundreds of pounds I've spent on gear is the money we've saved over the last 13 years of me not smoking anymore

Well done to all, it's worth the effort. I became a born again non-smoker when the price of a pack got to the outrageous sum of £1.50.

It's that time of year again. Anyone managed the full smoke free year? Anyone taking the plunge?

Never noticed this thread before, makes sense though being that most of us include cycling to improve our health and fitness.
It took a near fatal heart attach before I started on the road to getting nicotine free. This was 13Feb 2008. I knew it was something that had to be done but my desire to stop wasn't that strong. I refused to use any supplements but didn't dismiss the fact that if I couldn't manage without them for sure I would use every tool in the box.
At this time I had been clean and sober for 4 yrs so was well aware of how easy it could be for my thinking to alter quite quickly. example; one won't hurt me, maybe if I tried 5 per day. All nonsense! If I could have smoked 5 a day I probably wouldn't have clogged up my arteries.
The first year had it's moments but given time things did get easier. Once the insanity nearly returned well the thinking did, buy 10 smoke 1, fling the rest away. Like most addictions they can be cunning baffling and powerful. For me I was lucky enough to spot the obvious, aye the crazy head.
I don't believe there is any wrong way of trying to stop there are tools out there to use. I wish all who are going down this road all the best.
Non-smiling didn't only improve my cycling, it improved many is not all areas in my life....ramble over.

Just about to cross the threshold of a second smoke free year.
I am now not even tempted any more which is a wonderfully righteous feeling. Having spent the first year eating to replace the dreaded white sticks of pleasure, I have spent the second year trying to lose the weight I piled on but that is what lead me to cycling which can only be a good thing, right. Moving into the third year I am leaner and fitter than I have been for years.
To anyone thinking about it, do it. One day at a time, but do it.

Both the wife and I have been smoke free since January now.
Still got the ecig but with 0% juice for the odd vape
The savings paid for our 2 weeks in Egypt this year too
If anyone is thinking of stopping I would highly recommend the e cig route

1 year and 7 months since my last cig, barely even think about them now, like martin122 above i spend a lot of money on cycling stuff but its a lot better than spending them on smokes, imo go cold turkey, get it out of the system in one go and don't be depending on vaper sticks which are also addictive, good luck to any one quitting

I'm 514 days clean today! I don't even notice the savings, purely because renting a bigger flat and increasing the family by 1 reduces anyone's bank balance!!
E-cigs are definitely the way to go, I smoked one of them non stop for about 5 months until I found the Mrs was pregnant, then stopped that in January!

I started smoking in my early twenties (20 years ago) at university. Went through two periods of stopping, the longest being four and half years from 2003 to 2007. Stopped again for nine months when I trained for the 2011 London Marathon.
This year I stopped from February to April and I'm now in a "generally not smoking" period again. However I will always be a smoker and am comfortable with that. I might stop with them from now until I'm an old man. I might start again today. I go by if I don't want to smoke I won't and if I REALLY want one then I'll go and buy some. I'm going to West Ham on Saturday and I'm pretty sure I'll buy ten for the day. But I haven't smoked at home or at work for a few months now and I don't have the urge to. Besides, I'm cycling, swimming and gymming a lot at the moment and I really feel the fags when doing so.
Funnily enough I had my annual NHS health check last week. When asked about smoking I said about twenty a month (two nights out). The nurse said that although the NHS couldn't possibly say such things officially or publicly, that fell into the advised "acceptable" range in their charts and graphs. And my lung capacity test came in at 110% - which I think means I'm an X-Factor contestant.
