Cheers. The addded expense of a windows computer probably tips the costs over the edge. Will explore again next winter. You only on Linux? There's a mac version of zwift I believe.

I've liked windows since XP, and I'm a linux user. You'll find the Zwift issue regularly though, windows runs almost all software, anything else runs almost nothing. I know so many people who leave windows with the words "I don't use anything I can't run on XXX" - and give them 6 months and they are compromised because they can't use YYY (Zwift is an example - but not unique). I have the issue myself really, can't run Zwift at the gym as my laptop is linux.

I have the issue myself really, can't run Zwift at the gym as my laptop is linux. I am one case that can honestly say I haven't missed anything from Windows. Certainly nothing that I had used previously. I was never a Microsoft office use and most of what I do is through the browser anyway. I'm on my second Chromebook and have a Chromebox ready to go. I can't get enough of Chrome's 4 second boot up time and integration into Google services. I may miss out on things in the future but the constant updates, eventual slow downs, over complicated file structures just to use one program doesn't outweigh the convenience of Chrome OS for the other 98% of what I do on a computer. We will see what next Winter brings. I feel like I am starting from scratch this year with having a few health setbacks over the winter and no indoor trainer. I've learned a lesson.

While the weather wasn't too good on Saturday i deiced to do the 12wk FTP Builder Wk 4 Day 5 - this is a 3 hours session with a 15 min warm up, 2.5hrs at 195w and then a 15 mins warm down. Not really got time it the week for a session this long so Saturday seemed like a good opportunity for it. All was going well until about 1:30 into the session and my phone rang, as this is connect to the Mac the Mac rang too minimising the Zwift window, for some reason this took the trainer out of ERG mode making it difficult to stick too 195 watts. 5 mins later the phone rang again and had the same issue all over again, this time as i was trying get the setting screen back up i pressed something that sticked the current workout block taking me to the warm down - nightmare, not about to start all over again so skipped past this and just carried on riding Richmond for about 1.5hrs. In the end i ended up riding for 3hrs 17 mins to hit the 100km, longest session i've done on the turbo and don't plan to do too many more of that length. Overall the time passed pretty quickly and it wasn't too uncomfortable. www.strava.com/activities/487320889

So tonight I realised I've been following the wrong 12 week programme for the last week or so! Started / meant to be doing the 12 week FTP builder, for the past week I've been doing the 12 week winter plan. Thought some of the rides seemed a bit long! Oh well, back in FTP now. www.strava.com/activities/491240429

Check out my 34.6 km Activity on Strava: www.strava.com/activities/492830232I'm guessing next Sundays ftp test (plan at least) will be another rise as this workout wasn't too bad really, and I over did the intervals.

Been training for the Spanish hills so i'm part way through week 6 of the FTP builder and todays test shows an 8.5% increase in FTP - happy with that! www.strava.com/activities/501411452

Last night I decided I felt pretty good, and so I'd have a crack at the all too infamous on the zwift fb group "McCarthy Special". www.strava.com/activities/503880364/analysisHonestly after the first set, I thought there was no way I'd complete it. After the second set, I thought I'd have little chance, after the third, I genuinely punched the air at a full 13 *s. Nearly killed me, but quite proud. Only annoyance I havce at the moment is my BTwin s/c senbsor having it's speed "drop outs". Its always done it, did from the day I had it, and it's predecessor... seems to be a fault in the sensor... means its hard to see true averages etc, but not really an issue on Zwift.

Have any of you doing this 12 week FTP builder noticed any real world gains out on the road or are they just paper gains as you learn how to do the test better?

Have any of you doing this 12 week FTP builder noticed any real world gains out on the road or are they just paper gains as you learn how to do the test better? I don't use the workouts like this as I would rather use the Wattbike at the gym, so only do Zwift at the weekend while on childcare duties - so the specific 12week plans etc. seem a bit pointless, I have researched enough what I need to do anyhow - and then use a workout on zwift that fits the goals for the day - or just free ride if I'm on an easy day, which I tend to be on a Saturday. But, it's March and I set a selection of PBs this week on my winter bike, so there's definitely real world benefit happening. I can't see why training on zwift (a game apparently, not a training tool) wouldn't translate, just likely not with all the skills.

Hard to say about real world gains as i've not really been out on the road BUT got a feeling last weekend would have been much harder if i'd just been doing pointless miles out on the road or not following a plan on Zwift. Power output has gone up 8.5% since following the 12 week plan, i have skipped some so probably done 4 1/2 weeks of the plan so far. As for the paper gains as your FTP goes up the efforts in the plan go up too so i'm finding i can hold that higher power now where as 4 weeks ago i probably would have found it very tough.

Decided to head out and try and break 10s for the Watopia reverse sprint - there'd been some discussion about it's feasibility and I was sure I'd manage with a decent lead out down the hill and with the aero boost. It worked! - www.strava.com/activities/509490644
