Don't feel down if the legs don't feel good. Any miles are better than none and I'm sure everyone has those days when moving the bike feel like a massive effort. When I feel like that I try to forget the average speeds, distances and other things the garmin tells me and sit back and enjoy the scenery and feel happy I'm not working or at home doing some housework. Freewheeling down a hill with my legs out like when I was a kid never fails to put a smile on my face.

Cheer Al, gave me a laugh thinking about trying that and me ending up in a bush at the bottom. I do think most of it was in my head as I wasnt impressed when it came to getting the bike out and only had myself to argue with about the wind, cars, glass on the road, not getting out this morning, being hungry etc etc.
Defeated before I even started!

Next Saturday, a few of us are going round lough neagh, its only 80 mile or so but i'll make it up to 100 coming and going from meet point, having a presentation of the funds raised for the cystic fibrosis ride from Belfast to Donegal (115 miles) that night then a few beers , not sure how much was raised but it was a couple of grand, will try and get some pics of presentation and final total the week after. 84 done by most baz must have been very close to the 100 and no F'in Strava for him or myself. Β£3000 raised for a really good cause. A few beers last night and the craic was good. Will get a photo to baz when I get a chance. the pace was very fast at times but far too many unplanned stops. A great day had by all no matter what some of them say. Tough but good, 3 grand raised for people who go through a tougher life than ourselves, few beers (i suffered next morning ) that night, craic was great, as for strava .....

The great 35 mile ride that I planned went to pot. Ended up having to go out tonight as didnt get back until late. When I did get out I felt shocking, ended up not enjoying a ride for the first time. Tired and heavy legs & couldnt get comfortable on the bike at all and ended up with numb legs, feet&pins and needles in my hands. Oh to top it off I got had at the very top of a hill off a mountain bike! It doesn't get much worse. Although it did give me the kick up the backside to nail it the rest of the way & I never saw the mountain bike again. &at least I got out & did 14&half miles rather than nothing. 2weeks until manchester to Blackpool 60+miles im not feeling it right now&I defo need to get the miles in! Chill fella, i told you, sometimes you will feel like sh*te and wonder why you went out, take it easy, take a day off and your legs will feel better, remember that you need to build up some strength in your legs before you can go at it every other day and even then it can sometimes be crap, someone told me its all about "TITS" more "Time In The Saddle" and basically its true, the more you used to something the better

Happens to us all @al999. Take care not to over do it in the days leading up to your longer ride. Maybe bigger miles this week, then some lighter rides the week after.

A briliant bunch of lads that makes it all the easier to get off your rear and get on your bike.

So the choice today was carry on and get my work done and be stuck in the office at home all day & keep wishing I was out in the sun or sack the work off & get on the bike. The bike won hands down!
After the last ride what ever I ended up doing today I was going to push it and see how I got on.
I planned on being out for about an hour and using it as my dinner hour. 31.7miles later I got home in 2hrs 10dead according to my cycle computer. Felt great on the ride and for the first time I felt pretty quick rather than just the usual plod. It was much needed!
Next step is to give the bike a good clean & fettled to sort a couple of niggles. Then get in the right frame of mind to try for a 60 at weekend in prep for the Manchester - Blackpool the weekend after.

"#9 Comfort is important (...) Good idea to take some of your favourite painkillers / NSAIDβs along (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) like ibuprofen or naproxen." nhaaaaa, if you take ibuprofen/naproxen while riding your blood pressure will go underground with drastic bad effects. Suffer in silence and an aspirin by night in the bed.

Just a quick update as I have a 1yr olds birthday party to attend. Just went out for my Manchester to Blackpool warm up with the aim of doing about 50 miles. Managed to ride to southport got a bit lost on the way home and ended up riding 66.5miles. My phone died before the end but got most of it on strava. Tired now but well chuffed I made it. Note to self get another water bottle ajd take more than a packet of fruit pastles next time!

Got good advice on here previously about extending battery life. download app called battery doctor from cheetah mobile - has doubled amount of time my phone records strava, especially with the turn down cpu when screen is off option. oh - and i bought a backup battery too - only a few quid.
well done racking up the miles.

You'll find riding in a group makes it a lot easier than going out solo too. I did my first sportive yesterday. It was 60 miles - twice the furthest distance I'd ridden previously. I was riding with a mate and was surprised at how much easier it is in a bunch. Good luck.

I have to say I am slightly apprehensive of the prospect of riding with a lot of other people, as to date ive only been out once with one other person at the same time. Although it did help a lot just having someone to chat to and take my mind off things&know someone else was going through the same pains.
