Well my plans yesterday went to pot as I was to busy at work to get on the bike. Tonight though I managed to get out for a 22mile ride. New route again which included the longest steepest hill I have come across. Every time I though I was reaching the top id get around a bend and boom more hill and even steeper. At one point I was goin so slow I ended up on my back! I needed the rest anyway, but try getting started again when you're on a big ass hill&legs that dont want to work any more! I just wish I could have been watching as it was comedy gold. Also managed my first decent ride in rush hour traffic so have beat them demons and in the rain which was a first and not as bad as I thought it would be. All in all not a bad ride&it was good having my new cycle computer to play with. Next ride Sunday 35miles.

Nice, keep it up, you need to practise hills, when i first came to this forum i was told by a few to "hit the hills" hated it at the start but loving getting up them now, are you on strava? if not id recommend it, gives you some interest and keeps a track of your progress.

Cheer Baz, That was the thing I thought id done a few what I would call hills until this thing tonight it makes everything else ive done seem like slight bumps in the road. At least I have a good aim now in the hill department. Strava wise user name is Al Morris, I have been using it to plot my routes which has helped as I dont know the area where I live and where Ive been going. Still taken the wrong routes a lot but its helping. &Its good for me logging my rides or should I say plods.

We all start like that! I hated any hills (slight rises) when I started with vengeance. Now I really enjoy hills and actively search them out and getting reasonable decent at them. Stuff I thought were like everest when I started barely registers on the scale now but like anything with cycling, just practice.

Al, what event are you doing at the end of August? If it is the Manchester 100, I'll see you there. That will be my first century ride. Doing the ride with 3 friends as a charity fund raiser (Β£500 raised thus far).
Longest ride for me is 55 miles a few months back. I'm struggling to find the time to get out for long rides, i.e. anything >20 miles, due to work and family commitments. I'm working on the theory that the other exercise I'm doing plus losing weight plus a big increase in miles per week once the kids are on hols and I can commute everyday will get me through.
I was going to stalk follow you on Strava but there are a few Al Morris's. Where in the country are you?

Yeah its the Haydock one, pic of me under water swimming. And I think Baz beat you to the stalking Al. But yeah that would be the one the Manchester 100. Not sure how many are in the group ive jumped on but it will be my first ride with other people unless I manage to get the on the Manchester Blackpool. & with all the training you have been putting in Al you can have a drink waiting for me at the finish! Haha.

Following you now Al. The pace for the Manchester 100 will be dictated by my friend who is steady on the flat but struggles a tad on the hills. Certainly not going to be quick but that's not the point for our group.
Will look out for you on the ride and best of luck with the training.

Would be good to put a face to a name&see another one of the bikes. They have been like unicorns for me so far, people speak of them but I never get to see they mythical beast! :-)

When's the next one then baz? Next Saturday, a few of us are going round lough neagh, its only 80 mile or so but i'll make it up to 100 coming and going from meet point, having a presentation of the funds raised for the cystic fibrosis ride from Belfast to Donegal (115 miles) that night then a few beers , not sure how much was raised but it was a couple of grand, will try and get some pics of presentation and final total the week after. 84 done by most baz must have been very close to the 100 and no F'in Strava for him or myself. Β£3000 raised for a really good cause. A few beers last night and the craic was good. Will get a photo to baz when I get a chance. the pace was very fast at times but far too many unplanned stops. A great day had by all no matter what some of them say.

The great 35 mile ride that I planned went to pot. Ended up having to go out tonight as didnt get back until late. When I did get out I felt shocking, ended up not enjoying a ride for the first time. Tired and heavy legs & couldnt get comfortable on the bike at all and ended up with numb legs, feet&pins and needles in my hands. Oh to top it off I got had at the very top of a hill off a mountain bike! It doesn't get much worse. Although it did give me the kick up the backside to nail it the rest of the way & I never saw the mountain bike again. &at least I got out & did 14&half miles rather than nothing. 2weeks until manchester to Blackpool 60+miles im not feeling it right now&I defo need to get the miles in!
