It's been used for a commuter and seems well cared for. I'm of the thinking now that I'd just like a road bike and get out there then see how the finances are in 6 months/1 year and look at upgrading if I've taken to it. Phil, Pledge yourself 2 or 3 times a week (min) for 6 months, you're allowed the odd week off . 'The past is history, the future's a mystery, the present is a gift' - live in the now and get on with it! Atb, Rad PS - we'll still let you be a provisional member on the premise you'll get there eventually.

That's the plan Rad, need to have a reason to go out regularly else I'll become a home working hermit! And I promise to one day join the club!

@ohoward - just gears, chain cleaning, brakes etc. - I mean keeping it well set up generally. Just recently a few people I've come across and ridden with for a while locally, that didn't get out a lot (perhaps understandably), appeared to be making it hard for themselves by battling with badly set up bikes. Overly crunchy gear changes, rubbing cages, chain squeaks, levers that practically touch the bars before pads contact the rims, rattly parts, no access to certain cogs due to incorrect cable tension and wrong indexing etc.; after 10 mins of riding with one guy I had to say something about him sorting it (he was on a few year old Trek that wasn't cheap originally but made mine feel like a Ferrari in comparison), the mech' rub was so grating it was putting me off. But to balance the above, it does happen to all of us - my cranks have just started giving a low pitch creak under heavy torque, not always but it's bloody irritating, as you start riding to either avoid it or find out when and why it's happening, rather than concentrating on the terrain ... good job the new Sora Chain-set arrived this morning, just waiting for the final 'Deano' spacer (the other 'Deano' special spacer has arrived next day delivery today also) and we'll be off to my mate who has the full Park Tool workshop for a refit . I figured that's what you meant but I've seen you mention it a couple of times now and just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something. Cheers.

I think I'm using it in the nautical or aeronautical sense. trim verb \ˈtrim\ trimmedtrim·ming Definition of TRIM transitive verb 1 : to embellish with or as if with ribbons, lace, or ornaments <trim the Christmas tree> <the coat was trimmed with fur> 2 a : to administer a beating to : thrash b : defeat <trimmed me at chess> 3 a : to make trim and neat especially by cutting or clipping <trim the hedges> b : to free of excess or extraneous matter by or as if by cutting <trim a budget> <trim down the inventory> c : to remove by or as if by cutting <trimmed thousands from federal payrolls — Grit> 4 a (1) : to cause (as a ship) to assume a desirable position in the water by arrangement of ballast, cargo, or passengers (2) : to adjust (as an airplane or submarine) for horizontal movement or for motion upward or downward b : to adjust (as cargo or a sail) to a desired position intransitive verb1 a : to maintain neutrality between opposing parties or to favor each equally b : to change one's views for reasons of expediency 2 : to assume or cause a boat to assume a desired position in the water <a boat that trims badly> — trim one's sails : to adjust oneself or one's actions to prevailing conditions <compromise or trim your sails to suit the political winds — Philip Johnston>

Indeed. It was just my shifters actually have 'trim' but that was clearly not what you meant.

Halfords just sent me an email with a HALF PRICE OFFER on the Carrera TDF, only £299.99! Or the price it was six month ago, or £60 more than it was this time two years ago! That's marketing!

Had a look a Carrera TDF at Halfrauds today while getting a few things for the car and wasn't that impressed. The T3 was a way better deal. Their bike sales guy and I commiserated each other about getting soaked while riding this morning and laughed about how easy it to spend stupid amounts of money on bikes.

Blasted past a carrera tdf on my ride today, felt really good but I almost ruined the moment by struggling to clip back in after a roundabout and had him breathing down my neck as I faffed around with the pedals! He was soon gone once I was clipped in though

Have you guys seen it's down to £250 at the moment? TDF
Would you consider it now at this price? I think I would of gone for it as it was my first choice but when I came across the T3, my mind was made up. Plus, Decathlon > Halfords as far as I'm concerned. Customer service in Halfords has not been good in my experience.

There seem to be a lot of these yellow perils about. We spotted several on the SW Member's ride last weekend but never actually went head to head. For £250 it has to be a bargain and it could be upgraded in the same way that many of us have done with the T3. In the end its more a matter of brand awareness and perception. Is there a Carrera TDF owners Club? Highly unlikely I think.
Must be getting close to 200 posts. Any prizes RL?

At £250 the TDF is well worth it.

Great price, though I imagine those 2300 shifters are going to be increasingly hard to shift once the Claris groupset gets more mainstream. I would expect to see some real bargains on 2300 equipped bikes before the summer's out, especially on some of the real expensive brands.
