True, if anything, it's the fact that I heard it so much that put me off it, after the second week I began to cringe at it ... but then I am a home working weirdo who rarely goes out and has it on full time on my second PC screen, so probably was up there with the world record viewing count - give me a decade and I'll look back it nostalgically like I do with the Carlos Fandango Hamlet ad' . lol, or vuvuzelas.....too early maybe

Who's that trap trapping over my bridge! Take it or leave it, I watched a documentary about the making of it and although the means by which they got Francis was contrived they did actually do the rides, no reason to disbelieve them unless you want to go down the conspiracy route......for a bike? Whether it worked or not......we all bought tribans Who gives a tom about carrera That mate was short and blunt! Well yep not buying a bike - well Carrera that is but I was wondering why all the animosity was directed to this video. Not feeding any troll!

agreed the little idents at the ad break were a little testing but the movie itself is great im sure some people thought the meerkats were hilarious at first, being a hearts supporter i have nothing nice to say about russians at the moment! 'they use those methods to torture people in secret American camps now you know !' how do you know? who are you connected to?

Gloucester local resident mate; we know what you're all up to but like I said to my mates at GCHQ, when you've finished reading all the stuff I get sent, let me know if there's anything important I need to look at because most of the time it ends up in the bin folder!

Quick question, if you were facing the prospect of not having a road bike for the year or buying a second hand well looked after TDF for around £100 what would you do?

Yep, maintain it / improve on its maintenance, get it set up and trim it regularly and it should be fine; likely bought in a fit of enthusiasm by someone who then didn't maintain the effort to use it or be bothered to look after it so will either be hardly used or badly maintained (maybe not though) - you can likely sell it later at circa just under £100 if it's in good shape.
I am all in on the just do it philosophy, it's why I bought the T3 last winter rather than wait for something exotic in the spring - don't regret it one bit. I think a well maintained cheap but functional bike is better than a badly maintained thoroughbred but conversely, at that price you could just ride it, squirt lube at it on occasions, run a cloth over it every now and then and keep going 'til it falls apart without worrying too much.

Buy it! Should be fine if maintained and compared to no road bike there is no decision! If want 'better' roadie in future can always use tdf in winter or sell it on again and recoup most/all your money

Rad, when you say 'trim' in this context what are you referring to?

It's been used for a commuter and seems well cared for. I'm of the thinking now that I'd just like a road bike and get out there then see how the finances are in 6 months/1 year and look at upgrading if I've taken to it.

@ohoward - just gears, chain cleaning, brakes etc. - I mean keeping it well set up generally. Just recently a few people I've come across and ridden with for a while locally, that didn't get out a lot (perhaps understandably), appeared to be making it hard for themselves by battling with badly set up bikes. Overly crunchy gear changes, rubbing cages, chain squeaks, levers that practically touch the bars before pads contact the rims, rattly parts, no access to certain cogs due to incorrect cable tension and wrong indexing etc.; after 10 mins of riding with one guy I had to say something about him sorting it (he was on a few year old Trek that wasn't cheap originally but made mine feel like a Ferrari in comparison), the mech' rub was so grating it was putting me off. But to balance the above, it does happen to all of us - my cranks have just started giving a low pitch creak under heavy torque, not always but it's bloody irritating, as you start riding to either avoid it or find out when and why it's happening, rather than concentrating on the terrain ... good job the new Sora Chain-set arrived this morning, just waiting for the final 'Deano' spacer (the other 'Deano' special spacer has arrived next day delivery today also) and we'll be off to my mate who has the full Park Tool workshop for a refit .
