Is there any reason why a pro cyclist couldn't do the TDF on a Carrera? I know that's not the point being discussed here but at their sale prices they're decent entry level bikes. The carbon jobby from the tour de Francis gets decent-ish write ups.

Ahh fredscuttle, we agree on something - I'm a tolerant sort of chap most of the time but the 'Tour de Francis' was irritating to a level not often exceeded in the media these days - I watched almost every minute of the TdF on PC screen 2 last year and that joker became more irritating than the wonderful Michael Gove, tears on the ascents and wussing it on the phone etc - I'd almost forgotten about it and now the horrendous imagery has come back to haunt me like a freight train ... aaahhh! I take it this ad was on ITV4? Either that or I somehow managed to miss it on the Eurosport coverage!

Frederick please, did you watch the 'tour we francis' movie on YouTube, I thought it was superb and only minimally promoted the bike. Give it a watch, its no bad at all Unfortunately I'm all too familiar with that 'superb' publicity stunt (sorry, movie). Not only is he an excellent cyclist, as his Madeleine and Croix de Fer ascents prove, but he can also perform miracles whilst climbing, amazingly being able to make his bike camera teleport from right fork to stem, along with mounting bracket, and even vanish into thin air. Either that or they're not being completely honest with us. But that couldn't be true - could it? Clearly Halfords and DLKW Lowe, the ad agency responsible for dreaming up the stunt, are very sensitive about these things because all of my posts from last year pointing out the above were removed. Do you often get comments removed? Lol We all know it was an advert, but it was a good one, what are they lying about? The virago did the test Ffs they are a business, I think they got their timing spot on given the UK success at last years tour, the movie was better than the ads you saw and so what if it wasn't genuine, it was a story that helped to shift a shed load of their bikes Put t this way I'd rather watch tour de Francis ads over that damn fat opera singer or those stupid unfunny meerkats, anytime

The top end carreras are up there with dogmas and such like, dream bikes I kid you not, dream prices too, like their deal with Boardman halfords don't get to sell the top end stuff and halfords is carrier as only UK outlet so we never see the good ones A pro would ruin the tdf for example I'd expect, the frame wouldn't be stiff enough and I doubt the drive train would cope either

Don't get me wrong, I see them for what they are (ie half decent, entry level bikes for people dipping their toes) but they're not THAT bad. As owners of b'Twins I'm sure we can all understand.

Yep, ITV4 forever and ever and ever and ever ... I've tried ITV4 I really have (so I could look at cancelling Sky as the online app for Eurosport doesn't have catchup), but I really don't like the commentary style. Eurosport for me personally seems to have the right mix of insight and knowledge interspersed with some light humour. A shame really!

PS if i understand your post correctly - Carrera and Halfords Carrera are not the same thing. They are the same thing halfords don't have access to the high end bikes I agree the are somewhat maligned primarily because of their association with halfords, carrera make very decent bikes, check their Webby, I think they are spanish

I wonder what pathetic advertising campaign they've got lined up for this year's Tour De France. Remember the stunt they dreamt up last year with some plonker pretending he was doing various mountain stages on a Carrera. Frederick please, did you watch the 'tour we francis' movie on YouTube, I thought it was superb and only minimally promoted the bike. Give it a watch, its no bad at all Never saw it, was it as bad as everyone is saying? How comes you like it?
