The deed is done, went to mecca and they only had the satcount in so ordered the sc plus and should arrive within the next few days - only edinburgh order so Arny has access to my real name now Looks good though, certainly the standard one - none too big but nice clear display, seems light enough sand works with all the geonaute software and sensors side note : interestingly, the chap in mecca said there is a division within decathlon that would help with jerseys - arny get on to it mate review on th sc plus to follow

If you can, will you try the routing stuff via mygeonaute? That's the bit where you draw your route and upload it into the SC+ then follow it. Cheers!

Are there any apps for the iPhone that also use this 'breadcrumb' feature. Create route and upload it to the app and then you get basic directions?

Not sure how earth shattering it is...

Am I right in saying that you need a 3G signal for this, as it is very patchy anywhere in the country (one of my rides, I can't get a basic signal)? I know on my friends Garmin they plot the route at home, upload it and then get very basic arrow directions from GPS. I am sure that there must be something on the iPhone.

Yep, you need a 3G signal, good point. I don't know if there are any maps you could download onto an iPhone, am pretty sure my brother got one for driving... Worth Googling and if you find out, let us know!

The beta cycle thing is closer to alpha than beta, its also available on the Android (and probably the iOS) version. Its a bit of a pain to cache all the map tiles you need but it can be done which means you don't need a 3G connection.

It also makes use of off road tracks and canals so you have to be careful with your road bike.

I am still of the opinion that the Garmin 510 is better. But will wait on your report. sold the bike I won so I am that much closer to getting a more reliable gps solution.

I've tried a few apps (google maps / viewranger )and havent been impressed by them.. in the end I purchased a Mio cyclo 300 and I am very impressed with it. When I was looking to purchase I read a few reviews about weak GPS signal in built up areaβs but I donβt know how true this is as I used it to get from Buckingham palace to Manchester and never lost signal once it was perfect very clear screen and instructions its ready to go out of the box. my friend has the Garmin 800 he did the ride with me and we both used the same route file and mine was always 1st to give the direction plus he had to buy an extra map to get local roads. Another great feature is the surprise me button where you can either enter a time or distance and it will plan a route for you and get you back home in the time or set distance which is great if you get bored of doing the same routes around your area.

Is use Ride with GPS for creating routes, you need to sign up to the site but it's free. Found it very useful for plotting routes. They can then be exported out as GPX files and loaded onto various devices. I usually export them out and import them in Cyclemeter & Memory Map on my iPhone. When i did the Coast to Coast the other weekend my mate used it for the route and cue points, he then put this on his Garmin 500 and it worked a treat for directions rather than keeps checking the map and killing the battery on my iPhone.
