PS - I rang Petra Cycles today and I got 'it should be with you, we sent it Thursday but you have to wait a while on the 2/3 working day orders', I reply isn't that today though?
He gives it the 'sometimes you need to wait 2 weeks with Royal Mail' and that's what you'd have to do before we can do anything; I asked if it was tracked and pointed out that my cranks and another eBay spacer came the next day with free postage - he was then into a polite 'well see what happens' but with a twist of 'why not just flook orf' in tone, I couldn't help saying 'hmm, I should of gone to Chain Reaction Cycles' then a polite thanks and bye but with an inferred, 'I'll not be back here in a hurry'.

I had a similar the same problem with Petra. I ordered a spacer and a bottom bracket tool. The spacer turned up after about three days but no tool. When I contacted them the said "oh I'm sorry Sir, the tool you ordered has been discontinued - we were going to contact you". To their credit they were very apologetic and sent me similar tool which was more expensive but at the price of the one I ordered. I have used them previuosly and they have been OK.

It seems to run fine. You're just making me flap!!!!! I did say it's a bit geeky and may not bother people but if you're going to fit them fresh, you may as well do it with the new improved 'Deano' method - 'marginal gains' n all that jazz !

when it comes to varying types of spacers, cant believe im going to suggest this, but the Orangetops usually keep spare spacers at their bike huts, when i got the 0sp casette stuck onto the aksiums decathlon didnt have a spacer so i popped next door, gave them a sob story, got a free spacer and went back next door to mecca to have it fitted, my how we laughed and extolled the virtues of britains second national bike chain store

I have e-mailed Petra Cycles back today on their brashly coloured e-mail to me - big white letters on a blue background, 'still no sign of this order' - wish I'd used Chain Reaction Cycles now.

i tell you what, hell mend the people who propose a windfarm near you rad!
i can imagine the torrent of logical objection and you have your own RED ARMY to mobilise too
still petra cycles aint looking to clever with this, id have thought spacers, for what they are worth, would have been included as a just in case
youve got that lovely new chainset waiting to get pounded scraped wrenched pushed pulled and punished and all for the want of a bloody spacer

I've used it anyway yesterday, have been pondering if it matters as it appears quite stable without it - however, I had what I thought were creaks on the 'settling in' cranks last night but to be honest I'm not sure where the sound was coming from exactly; wondered if it was the seat post, so that's come out for a clean and grease late last night, as well as taking the saddle / post top apart and cleaning it. I am after silence and general drivetrain perfection, I'll get there but they're not doing too well on helping balance the factors in my man-machine Zen harmony at present. Nothing against wind farms personally, I live near a nuclear power station plus the new proposal for an even bigger one; the existing pylons aren't as elegant as the turbines, we'll likely get more and massive cooling towers as well - whether the turbines stack up though is another matter ... we have to get our energy somehow and when (if?) power outages start becoming the norm, the nimbys will whinge about that as well. EDIT: Spacer is necessary!

aaaah the nimbies, gots to love em eh - personally need to think of a way to transfer power from the turbo - ever watched the belleville rendezvous?, if not DO - cant get greener than doing it yourself! now the sora C/S is a hollowtech yes? im sure you have but did you fit it patiently and balance the tightening procedure, most likely you did but thatd be my first guess in terms of 'sounds' - nothing worse than a sound is there so you live near a nuclear power station? i always thought you had actually bought a t5

You've read the techy bit above I presume? Does that sound like someone just whacking it together? I have done it to a level of scrutiny that some of the surgeons I know would be envious of ! I have just got off the phone to my ex racer buddy (who's sat in Heathrow, off to see a funky surf wave generating lake in Spain, as he's organising one here); we also think it could be the headset and just generally transmitting sound through the frame, so I'll be having a go at that next as well, just in case.

sounds like you used a stick, rock and a raleigh multispanner mate, what are you a butcher?
i hate 'frame' sounds, i get one on the turbo and i swear its the rear casette, but off turbo its sweet as a nut, ive looked at the chainset, ive looked at the turbo, cannot get it pinned down at all, ive even stuck tico pad under the turbo to dampen any vibrations but still no cigar, bugs the hell out of me and in an alu frame its all the more perceptable if you get my meaning

I do, my mate challenged me to do his TT lap once a week and my first attempt at the lap was tainted with me trying to pin down where the noise came from. I would have a little creak when pushing the pedals hard, it would go if I concentrated on 'turning circles' and composed riding style, climb a rise seated but moving a bit and it'd be back, stand out the saddle and it'd go, work the handlebars too much and it'd be back again ... we concluded it's likely twisting the bars and the stem and the cranks and seatpost are the red herring. By this evening I will have had a go at all 3 lol; if it's still there after that, then we've got a few high spots round here and I might have to do a David Millar (not that I would ):
