Might get out tomorrow, if not Sunday - IMO they are classy, pleased with them. Bloke at local bike shop saved the day with one of these www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-cs-hg-1mm-sprocket-spacer/ - only a couple of Β£s but it was a show stopper half way through the afternoon and getting one from just down the road was a result. I like to support Pete of Pete's Cycles in Thornbury, so just had to buy new water bottles to make it worth him running a card through the machine .

Was that for your pg850 cassette 11-28? did you have play in it before using the spacer?

Yes, the cassette is not new and fits the standard wheels fine but apparently Mavic wheels need the spacer for the SRAM 11-28 (and many others that are similar) - there is a slight wobble when you tighten the lock nut fully if you don't use it; the wheels I've got are 2013's but sourced through a friend who has links with a serious high end shop that does expensive Boardman bikes; there are sometimes Aksiums that never get used going spare at a good price (and discounted even more through my buddy). The owners upgrade immediately before taking the bike away. No packaging etc. though, so you're on your own with sorting them out - I was disappointed for a moment this afternoon when I sussed I needed one (via YouTube) so made a few calls and LBS owner Pete had it, whilst the Giant shop a few more miles away didn't; nice flashy show room but no obscure fiddly bits .

Will have to give my lbs a bell tomorrow as I'm pretty sure I need one for my shimano r501's, otherwise yet another order from wiggle. Ha.

Very nice wheels Rads. I knew you would get there in the end. You'll really miss all that faffing around with the bearings now. Not really relevant to this thread but my son got some new wheels today as well. Shimano Ultegras. Not as flash as some but good quality and in keeping with the conservative nature of the bike.

Nice!
It was always the plan to upgrade Phred, just wanted to earn the right which I think I have but to be honest the slight vertical out of trueness that the rear wheel had developed sealed the fate of the old ones - I just couldn't face having to get the bump out.

Hi Jugglingandroid, Did you find you needed a spacer for your 501s? Mine have just arrived, along with a new SRAM 11-28 cassette, but I can't find out in advace whether a spacer is needed or not. Nobody seems to know. I suppose I'll just have to bolt it all up and see. Trouble is...I don't have a chainwhip if I need to keep taking it all apart to faff with! Did you have to adjust the length of your chain too? I'm tempted to keep mine the same length as the original, but, again...it will be annoying to find it's too short. best w

Hi, sorry for late reply. You don't need a spacer with the 501's and sram pg850 cassette. Only mavic wheels need the spacer.
