The process was: 1. Do I need a racing bike? No 2. Do I want one? Yes 3. Will I break one? Possibly 4. Can I afford a Picarello Dogma? No 5. Could I do what Martyn Ashton could do on one? No 6. Will the wife let me spend a fortune on n+1? No 7. Should I get a turbo trainer? Maybe 8. Would I get away with a T3? Maybe 9. Could I get one to fit me? No 10. What about a T5? Maybe 11. Should I get a T500 or T500SE? Hmmm? 11. Do I like the Stranglers? Yes 12. Should the bike be all black? Definitely! Answer: Get a T500 for my birthday in the summer after clocking a couple of hundred miles a month on the MTB and a similar amount of hours in the gym.

Gawd darnit it's been like running through treacle ... no actually, that's rude, it's been a pleasure - if you do get to the point of riding with the TOC next summer I will have no hesitation in quoting Rule #5 !

Ditto! Given the fact that your pin in the map shows you are not too far south of me, I guess I'd better teach the wife Rule #1 (Always obey the rules), #2 (See rule #1) & #40 (No whining)!

No comment - you're on a provisional licence and yet to join the TOC officially. All I suggest is 'walkie walkie' not 'talkie talkie' ... show us your Strava !?! You sure you're not just trolling?

My Strava isn't very impressive - yet! Only 156 miles in 12 hrs 54 mins this year.
But this time last year it was 0 miles and 0 hrs 0 mins!

Any activity is good activity, that's been said on here many times - doesn't have to be awe inspiring, every mile counts. If you do get that road bike and get into it, the miles will be more than on a MTB, the elevation may not be as impressive but no-one really is all that precious about it ... it's a blank canvas to write your own cycling future on, no short cuts available ... but equally, no real pressure either. Just a bit of effort involved in getting out there and you can write a decent story for yourself. I'm going to shut up now, until you get on the case ... the TOC expects !

I think the prices need to be defined by Decca before you conclude. Doubt there's going to be only £20 difference - happy to be corrected if this is known already of course (you sure you don't work for the marketing dept?). Wish I was as I wouldn't have to buy one then! I'd keep trying them all !! I'm getting confused with all of this. T5 White is £399.99, T5 Black is £429.99 (on Decathlon.co.uk) and T500 is £429.99 (on BTWIN.com). I've read in one of the threads on here that the T500SE is reported as £370. All I know is I prefer the look of the T5/T500 all in black than with the blue hoods on the T500SE. I don't know enough about components to know whether the difference between 500SE and 500 is justified. Just to clarify the T5 white is the T5 frame from 2years ago with the carbon seat stays which became the T7 with Tiagra last year. As this is now being discontinued they're selling them off so compared to the current T5a you're getting a better frame plus clipless pedals for £30 less Many of the models are staying the same with just a name change so the T3a becomes T300 T5a becomes T500 etc. On the system at the moment the Riverside 3 has already become the Riverside 300, but the bikes still have the same graphics, whether they will put Sora brakes on the 5/500 and increase the price who knows? (the T500 on BTWIN.com is a T5) The Triban 5a/5se/500 frame is to my knowlege exactly the same as the 3/3a/300 so the 5se is the equivalent of the old T3 Red at £70 more

Typical French make everything confusing!
Still, not long to wait and all will be properly revealed.

I'm in the market for a summer bike but this is so confusing I think I'll let it play out. Besides I'm very happy with my 5a.

They put a pic of some new B'twins on the Decathlon facebook page the other day.
They look different. Nice though.

They're a bit marmite. Some love the angles and the stealth look, others hate it. I like the matt colour and shape, but that's because vehicles that look like they were in mad Max have always appealed to me!

they have got a delivery comign into warehouse VERY soon but they keep changing and unconfirming the date. Once confirmed it'l be 1 week before they reach store.
FOR the rest of the TOC club. Please drop this a like on this post if you want further information and updates regarding the wareabouts of the mach and ultra.
Just quote and which model and if you are looking at buying1, which frame size. (frame sizes do make a difference to ordering dates)
and for the people in the midlands i'll keep an update out on what is coming into our store (Wednesbury Birmingham btw).
hope this helps

I spent some time on the forum late last summer when I was looking to buy a Triban - thanks again to all who helped. I decided on the Triban 5a and after a visit to Decathlon in Stockport was keen to get one. This didn't however happen due to finances but it is now a realistic option again. Decathlon have though in the interim changed the goalposts!
I'd quite like the T500 but don't especially want it over the T5a. Some questions to refresh my mind and get a handle on the current situation:
1. From reading on here I understand the T500 is the replacement for the T5a, is this correct? 2. When is the T500 due in store, how definite is this? 3. What are the primary differences between the T5a and the T500? 4. Which is better and does the price difference warrant this? 5. Where does the white version fit into all this (is it the original T5?) or is that academic due to limited availability, I'm after a 57 frame?
Thanks in advance.
