Yep, just a chainset - should say 8, 9 or 10 but if you buy all 10 compatible gizmos to complement it, then it shifts more expensive kit . Thank you. So i order 50 39 30? And should i get 170 or 175? And last question, are all hollotech 2s the same?

Big subjects those first two!
Gearing; if you think you can power the higher numbers then that's up to your judgement here; I don't recall ever seeing any of your Strava so it's difficult to judge. If you do go to the higher numbers you will be spreading your range up the gear ladder, might suit you or might not; I might gear up next year ... it's safe to say that powering the flat is what I can do, would perhaps be a hindrance elsewhere though, so maybe not such a good idea; still thinking on it.
Crank length - same with the crank length; can effect your seat height and all sorts of things may sneak in, if it ain't broke don't fix it type scenario - further reading needed.
Derailleur is up to you.

No neednto get new derailleur, in fact a 10 speed would be bit narrow for a 8 speed chain and more likely to rub. In terms of 170 or 175 that is crank length. mine (60cm t3) is a 175 but not sure if different size tribians have different length cranks. Should say on back of crank. Up to yoi if want longer/shorter crank. Both will fit. I'm 6ft 2 and would always have 175

Ah yer right robertsims, I was thinking it was a 'do I change' question on the crank length ! Easier on the legs and joints to stay on the smaller but if you're already on the larger, at the correct size for height, then that's that.

Ok I'll check tomorrow on the 170/175 and stick to what I already have. I thought the triban as standard was 50 39 30. What ever that means. So shouldn't I stick to that? I'm not a really serious rider. And I don't do anything too dramatic. I usually stick to flat roads.

I have an FSA Energy on a BB30 on my Focus. Lovely chain set. If they do a Mega Exo it should be ok, but BB30 will deffo not work. BTW has anyone switching from stock to a hollowtech on the T3 had any issues? With older frames, its common to have to get the BB shell re-faced so that the hollowtech will sit flush, wondering if this would be required on the T3? I suspect not since its pretty much the same frame as the T5, but just curious It's a FSA Energy triple with a Mega Exo BB. Out of interest why would the BB30 not work? Not enough clearance in the bottom of the bike for the extra 6mm?

The Tiagra crankset is around Β£50 on Ribble www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/chainsets-chainsets-road-shimano-tiagra-triple-4603-10-speed-chainset/shimchar765But like CRC you'd still have to buy the Hollowtech BB separately, which can be had for around Β£10. I'm still trying to decide between the two cranksets myself - Tiagra as it's tried & tested on this forum (with good results) or around Β£10 extra for the FSA, which has been compared on other forums to Ultegra quality and the black crankset is more stealth for hiding the purchase from the missus (I'd promised her the wheelset was my last upgrade before our bairn arrives early next year!).

Treat yourself @toonsi not going to make a huge difference - going purely on looks (and I'm about to offend a few I realise, apologies, each to his own), it's the FSA ! Edit: although thinking about it the safe compatibility bet is the Tiagra - choices, choices lol !

My mountain bike has 175. to be honest, 170 feels a little too short for me, i think I might be odd in that I have a short body in comparison to my legs. Had everything been in proportion, I'd be on a 57

I went for 175, I'm not sure but I think that may have been what was on my 57.
Either way I couldn't see it making a massive amount of difference at the time I ordered it. Since then I've read a bit more but still find in difficult to believe that it does make that much of an effect, I own socks that will make a bigger change to how I fit the bike!
