I will use this thread to document the build of my recently acquired Triban 500SE. I'm open to suggestions for a nickname for the bike. Karen says the Grey Destroyer just sounds naff so get your thinking caps on. As you know my original T3a was nicknamed the White Destroyer as it was white and I used to destroy my riding buddies on their carbon superbikes with it. I carried the destroyer theme on for my Speedmax time trial bike as the Time Destroyer. Possibly the Bank Balance Destroyer...

That's an interesting take on the destroyer theme but I'm keen to uncouple myself from unwieldy, heavy, slow vessels.

The new parts I ordered over weekend have started to arrive already. A Wahoo RPM wheel speed sensor, a LifeLine inline cable adjuster, a Shimano 34.9mm braze on adapter and some Fulcrum Racing 5 C17 wheels. I've built the wheels up with Vittoria Latex innertubes and 25mm Continental GP 4000Sii tyres and a 5800 11-28 cassette. Compared to the standard wheels, tubes, tyres and cassette they are 694g lighter. I've started prototyping my full length mudguards to work with 25mm tyres.
The standard bike weighed 10.2 Kg without pedals so I'm already down to 9.5 Kg with a full Ultegra 6800 groupset to go and possibly a change of handlebars.

Thanks Grant. Hog conjures up images of portliness though. The exact opposite to what I will be achieving

The Grey Wolf, swift moving, catches and pounces on the target (Owd lags) ahead of it.
It is not just a Grey, it is a Stealth Grey, have you seen the colours of our F-35 aircraft? It could be that copied that shade.

I'm going to have to ride up Great Dun Fell once more to take a new profile picture. That can wait for much better weather and Karen want a crack at it too.

I am surprised "The Dark Destroyer" has not been suggested.

How about 'the Upgraded Proclaimer' - Well it is a 500 and more. And I would ride my 500 miles and I would ride my 500 more π Mel-in-Red The Dark Destroyer has been the name of my Aeroad for over 4 years. No new parts arrived today but I've stripped the bike down to a frame and forks. The headset is as new and never seen water. Being supplied with a Sora crankset it already has an external bottom bracket which is suitable for further use. No nuts or bolts were seized and no corrosion on anything. The front mudguard is on with a 25mm tyre and the back is in advanced prototyping. I've stripped the handlebars to compare them to a set of FSA bars. They weigh about the same at 320g but the FSA are 40cm like my Aeroad compared to 42cm Btwin and have a slightly shallower drop and reach so these are going to be used. The braze-on adaptor for the front derailleur is correct at 34.9mm.

My bikes following names for inspiration (all chosen by by 2 sons ages 11 and 8):
Red T3 - Diego (after the sabre tooth tiger in ice age movies - cool agile fast and dangerous)
Fuji TT bike - Treeko (named after a Pokemon apparently, starts with a T to match TT bike and Fuji sounds Japanese like Pokemon!)
Grey Boardman CX bike - Silver Fox (the bike is silver and likes to play in the fields and forests like a fox as does C.X bike....plus daddy's hair maybe going little silver fox like!)

R8000 shifters, R8000 front derailleur and 6800 brake calipers arrived today. Finished making the new mounting brackets for my mudguards and they are now on the 500SE along with 25mm tyres. Tomorrow's job will be to fit R8000 to my Aeroad as all the parts have arrived and then the parts I remove can be fitted to the 500SE.
