Been thinking of getting turbo this winter and when my wife asked me this week what wanted I suggested a turbo (@fluffkitten bought one on Ebay for about £50 which she thought was excellent).
For those of you with them - are they any good? Do you bother having a separate wheel with old/cheap/trainer tyre on or just use normal tyres (I thought if not riding my T3 much in winter just to put old tyre on the back wheel and keep it on. If decide to go on long run outside can always swap tyres back)? Have anyone tried out the Sufferfest vids? I know they are popular and fancied a go at them to pass an hour on nights when wife puts kids to bed.

did one sufferfest and was greetin like a bairn after 37 minutes, it was great but sore, not surprising really
turbos are worth it, ok so you dont have hills (that means no descents too btw) and theres no wind, but you are much more in tune with your computer and you dont stop and coast, you pedal constantly which develops your stamina, id go for something around the 150 mark as below this, generally, you wont find much in the way of remote resistance control, you do use your gears but with extra resistance control you can simulate hills to an extent - esp when raising front wheel
if you have got one, get one, well worth it

thanks zs. Afraid it's £50 one or none I'm afraid. Money tight but that usually top budget for birthday on each other.

I've picked up a turbo trainer for £50.00, hardly used in excellent condition. Was £150.00 new on my local buy sell and swap on Facebook. It wasn't advertised I just put on "wanted" and got 2 interests.

Elite Magnetic the reviews seem ok on it. Haven't tried it out yet I was just looking for something reasonably priced to keep me pedalling over winter when the weathers foul

As mentioned in a previous post, i did quite a lot of miles on the turbo last winter and felt there was no need to swap for a turbo tyre as there was very little wear. This year now i have new wheels on the bike i might think about put a turbo tyre on my old wheel (with a spare wheel it's an easier than keep swapping tyres) although not too sure yet as i might use these as my winter wheels / tyres. The tyres currently my old wheel are still the original tyres and they still have some miles left in them.
The turbo is a lot different to riding on the road, no hills, wind etc but it well keep you fit over the winter. What i did notice was come spring and i was back on the road regular i had lost some of the fitness i'd built up over the winter. This year i plan to put a better routine together, more interval training etc, it's not good just going on a riding for and hour.
One thing i can recommend is getting a fan, you'll sweat like hell if you don't!
