Latest offerings from Planet X - alloy CX bikes
Two varieties - SRAM Apex 1X groupo with hydraulic (SRAM) disc brakes for £899, and 50/34 Tiagra double with mechanical (Avid) disc brakes for £100 less. I've been looking at this, first saw it last year at the bike show but only recently on the website. I've thought about buying just the frame which is a bit of a bargain www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/FRPXXLA/planet-x-xla-alloy-cyclocross-frame although the fork is the same again and the headset very expensive. The difficulty is how cheap the XLS carbon model is in their build it yourself offer, so I'm waiting in hope a similar offer comes out for the XLA. I like the position of the rear brake and the standard (not pressfit) bottom bracket.

Im my experience i would stay well clear of Planet X when it comes to buying a bike, customer services is non-existent. Did buy wheels off them last week as they were only £45 and for use on the turbo. I've been looking at this from Ribble

Spring 2018 for the CX/gravel bike. I like the simplicity of 1 x 11 gearing. It certainly is great to see BTWIN developing such bikes again and about time too.

Btwin seem very slow to react to market trends. Still no aero bike which is why I went to Canyon.

I've gone all moist! Just said to SWMBO that this is my next bike to replace my commuter and mtb. She said the tyres don't look safe for winter riding!

I am not knocking the bike but why do they have to put the logos "FLAT MOUNTED DISK BRAKE" on the chainstays and "CARBON" on the forks? Its really naff IMHO. At least there are no spelling mistakes with this one provided you accept that disc it spelt with a "k".

Btwin seem very slow to react to market trends. Still no aero bike which is why I went to Canyon. So, group-set wise, BTwin is moving to the dark side. Very sensible set up for a disc one. Wished it was available last year, I'd prefer to buy it from them, even though I would not have waited for if I knew it was coming now. I should better do my review of this group set, it might now be of an interest to a few people around.

I thought the bike pictured was designed for long distance road cycling. No pannier rack eyelets or mudguard fittings.

I'd spoil it by putting on some Crud Mk3s for the commute and for using for winter miles. I normally carry a rucksack on my commute. So no need for panniers.

Just picking on an older thread here but looking to see if anyone purchased a cyclocross or adventure bike recently?? In a position just now to purchase a bike that'll be suitable for trails, commutes (pannier eyelets available) and winter rides and cant decide what to buy (£1000 budget). Originally was looking at the idea of the 1X11 SRAM options such as the Raleigh/Boardman offerings but see that Pinnacle now offer a 1X using a bar end shifter, anyone any thoughts on this? However, I've since spotted this and the equipment and spec looks good www.orrobikes.com/bikes/road/terra-gravel-roadSuch a pity Btwin havent got in on the act sooner!

That looks a properly nice bike. if I had £1000 burning a hole in my pocket, I wouldn't anymore.
