Agreed, best stage I've seen for a while. Turning into a great race.

Watched first 10 stages in German, Spanish and muted! Looking forward to some English commentary for the rest.

Might be better off with no sound than Carlton Kirby!

Might be better off with no sound than Carlton Kirby! I'm glad to have Carlton Kirby back. For Olympics and TdF we had Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen.

I quite like Carton's total randomness.

They're all OK, only need to mistime the viewing and watch darts or snooker to be reminded that any cycling commentary is better than that other stuff.

Drifted off to sleep but luckily woke up by an excited Carlton Kirby for the last kilometre, worth catching the highlights if you can.

Circumstanced dictated that I have a rest day today but there will be no chance I'll bounce back from this like they have done in La Vuelta

I quite like Carton's total randomness. Me too. It takes talent to ramble on for 2-3 hours and find something vaguely interesting to say. I usually have him on in the background while I am working and rarely look at the screen unless something incident has occurred. However although I have huge respect for Sean Kelly for his palmares, as a pundit? Hmmmm.

I'm enjoying the vuelta as always. It is generally a more enjoyable race than the tour as riders seem to be more up for it than the tour and the stages never seem to easy unlike some of this year's tour's early stages.

Really exciting stuff, what with Chaves having a go as well, if only to show how Quintana and Froome seem to be a rung or two up from the rest. Intrigued by Froome's comment that he held his team back the day before the first rest day on the Covadonga fearing that the others had gone off too hard trying to hold Movistar's pace. Must be what other teams felt about Sky at the Tour but still tried to cling on anyhow. If it wasn't for Quintana's finish that day you might have said Froome called it pretty much spot on as he burnt his saved matches late and caught almost all of them on the final section.
With 3 more official mountain stages to go before the TT it's going to be interesting to see how Movistar play those, especially on Saturday in the French Pyrenees. The finish on the Col d'Aubisque will be feisty I'm sure! Looks as if there may even be a safety net for Quintana of a mountain stage the day after the TT as well to spice things up a bit. Doesn't have a big mountain finish but is it the sort of profile where a GC contender could make a hold a break on an earlier climb?? Don't recall seeing one of those for quite a while.

Interesting snippet from Brailsford saying that it was a gutsy call holding the team back, but the right one, as Froome managed a PB up the mountain. Also liked Froome's responses to the comment from Quintana about maybe banning power meters from competition: Froome: 'What, just for me or everyone?' Interviewer: 'Everyone.' Froome: 'Sure, why not? Lets also change the bikes back to single speed.'
