I bought the 510 when it was first released, £299 including HRM and cadence sensor, but there's probably better deals to be had now. I think it's a great bit of kit but find the Livetrack feature a bit flakey. Seems to only work about 50% of the time (I have it paired to my iPhone 4 which I carry in my jersey pocket).
I was looking at the 810, but by the time you add the sensors and map packs I just couldn't justify the cost.

And yes the 810 for me is completely unjustifiable sad about the Livetrack not living up to the hype but I do like it nonetheless I have noticed a number of teams in the Giro using what looks like the 510 instead of the SRM

Looked again, it is a brilliant ad, for the social aspect it is immense. Giving someone a nudge on their phone to say 'I'm getting out there' is genius. I'm warming to it, Whitey! What price are we looking at at the moment? I'll add cadence and HRM so if there's a bundle/pack, I could be tempted! It's around £270 for the full pack on wiggle. I am most certainly going to get one its just a matter of when.

I think it's a great bit of kit. I initially wanted it to replace my iPhone that I was using with Strava. I also wanted to add the HRM and cadence sensor. It's got some good features, with many customisable screens and I like the way you can set up multiple bike profiles as I also use it on my mountain bike. I know I don't use half the features it's got, but as I start to get out and ride a bit more I'll probably start playing with it. I also like the fact that its waterproof so I don't need a bulky case to keep it dry like with the iPhone. The only thing I need to get is another out front bar mount. The package I bought came with 2 of the standard mounts and one out front mount, but I had to use that on my mountain bike as its got odd shaped bars. The out front mount puts the device central on the bars and it makes it easier to look at when riding.

Maybe we could work out the social media features when I get one?

I read this review when I was looking at buying one, it goes into quite a bit of detail about all the features. www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/01/garmin-edge-510-in-depth-review.html

Maplin has the 500 for £150 and the bundle for £195. Whats the view on this? linkI have a 500. It's excellent. I was lucky with mine, Best Buy were selling them off for £75 (without sensors) when they closed, and a friend bought one. he then sold it to me after 2 uses for £50. only problem was he'd managed to lose one of the rubber plates that fit under the mount. I picked up a Speed/Cadence sensor for £22 from Amazon and a standard heart rate monitor for about £30, i think. £195 for the bundle doesnt seem too bad. One interesting point: with smartphones using assisted GPS, they dont work very well in no reception areas. This is where a dedicated device works best. I noticed on a ride in the Highlands where there is no signal at all, that there were no segments on Strava Either... Only issues I have with the Edge 500 is its limited to 3 bikes, and sometimes takes ages for the initial GPS acquisition.

As a matter of fact he wasn't recommending it at all. I am left uncertain what to do, but getting the money together would take some time so I will have that time to think about it. Damming situation for Garmin though: no Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity poor smartphone interface no connection to social sites like Strava (no great loss) its bigger than the 500 and cost more!

Damming situation for Garmin though: no Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity poor smartphone interface no connection to social sites like Strava (no great loss) its bigger than the 500 and cost more! For me it was a toss up between the 500 & 510. What swung it for me was the smartphone connectivity and the extra features on the 510 and I was willing to pay the extra for it. The idea of my wife being able to track my ride and know I where I was was comforting for her (even if it stalls sometimes when you lose mobile signal). Size wasn't really important, it's still way smaller than my iPhone + waterproof case that I was using previously. And the way you can customise the screens with whatever data you want to see is also great compared to what was available on the Strava app that I was previously using. I'm also thinking of getting an indoor trainer eventually and being about to use the device with the sensors and set up training routines was also appealing. The guy doing the review is able to compare it to all the other devices that are available, something which most of us (if not all) are unable to do. It didn't put me off buying the 510 and I'm still happy I did . It does everything I need it to and more (and the touch screen works with gloves on which my iPhone (in the waterproof case) didn't )

Hi all,
right, so i managed to get my hands on the BTWIN GPS SatCount monday and soo far this is what i think.... Disappointing!
I'm sorry but the Satcount is Okay in my opinion but to me, with it being £80 is slightly questionable. £60-70 would be more appropiate for me.
I've taken it out on rides and these are the good points I've noticed:
- Big screen, nice and clear so you can see whats going on with the info. - Lighting, when it gets to areas where its not so easy to see (night time), nice big bright backlight so you can see whats on there. - customisable. You get to pick what you want as your top 4 and with the down button get to see the next 2 items you've chosen. - Does do altitude, and elevation +/- which is a nice handy tool.
Okay now the bad things: - bit bulky but not as bad as it makes out to be. ent so bad on the neck stem. - GPS. Starting from my house, picks up easily. In the middle of brum... Good luck. impossible to start until your just starting to leave brum. - Bracket. depending on which way you put it, when you start getting on some slightly rought terrain, seems to just wanna slide to the side where its been pulled from. Very annoying when you have to keep readjusting ti so you can see. - Power button. May take some time to get used to as a couple of times when I've left it on my handlebars, forgot to turn off, so pain in the backside, having to charge it because it hasn't got a self sleep timer. Will be difficult mainly for count 4,8 and 14+ users) - Compatibility. BIG ISSUE for me here as I've got a mac and it says mac and pc compatible. Okay, its all good that i can sync it up to my mac, but it only treats it as a memory stick. I don't know what its like on windows but when i come to download "MyGeonaute". Its only got Windows application software... no Mac!. So quite miffed on that.
I think theonly decent thing your gunna get out of this is the routing and navigation if you've got a windows computer and want the GPS, anything else... I'd go garmin or SatCount+ if able to get the Mac compatible app for MYGeonaute.

The Garmins have a feature called something like 'hot fix GPS' for better reception in built up/wooded areas. The Mac issue sounds a pain - you're right they market is as Mac or PC compatible. I thought the Satcounts were built to be compatible with the MyGeonaute website, so shouldn't matter whether a Mac or PC is connected? I guess the issue is exporting data from device and then onto Strava/MyGeonaute, etc. The issues you mention haven't put me off, and of course Decathlon's great returns policy means I can take it back if I don't get on with it. I think it's true that if you have a Decathlon card, it extends the time you can take something back to 60 or 90 days, rather than 30 days.

O dont get me wrong, if you have got a windows system, and your getting the SC+ then it'll be bang for your buck, the SC 3 though was just upsetting a little as when i come to download the program to run the "MyGeonaute" system, there was no Mac file to run it off. thats the only thing that is major wrong with it. I will be sending a message to UK marketing Sales team as i have there e-mail. With it being about the exportation of the logbook files, they give you 2 types which i'm guessing 1 is map and the other is travel info (spped, time, distance). I think with the mygeo app, it would make it alot more easier to make sense of it. I'm gunna be downloading it at work so we can test it out I don't wanna put you off the product, I'm just giving you a honest opinion on what i thought of the product so far to prepare you with what you'll be getting. If you can work ways around these then please feel free and be happy to share it. It helps me give the feedback to other and store so people dont end up in the same situation as i am in. Little point on navigation through the menus on the SC. very simple, very easy and straight to the point. If you want, I can explain a good detailed guide on what it does if it interests you

Cheers Dan, that's helpful again. I've read the SC+ manual, but if you can tell me more about turn by turn directions I would be really grateful. I emailed Decathlon customer services a couple of weeks ago asking if the device could export the .gpx file type, used by things like Google Earth and Strava (I think). Haven't had an answer, so when you try it with a PC I would be interested to see if that file type can be exported from the device.
Cheers again!
JOn.
