Now, were they adjusted the same, as little things like seat angle, saddle fore/aft and bar position can make all the difference?

No I don't think they were adjusted to be the same - however the bloke was pushing me to wait. I did feel more comfortable on the 57 but I don't know enough about bikes to go against the blokes judgement. But that does mean I have to wait a bit, hopefully not more than a week?!

All I can say is take a little time on that decision and work out what does and doesn't feel right if you can - convince yourself and then if you're happy you were right, come back and explain why on here to the newbies .

Just weighed my son's stock (only lights removed) 54cm 500SE: 10.3kg with pedals etc.
A shade lighter than his old bike (Islabikes Beinn 24, albeit that the current model is lighter).

Hopefully it might help a few people - you can now order the 57 online. Hopefully it isn't a cock up on the website but I've just ordered and awaiting the confirmation.

It's my birthday Monday and i'm desperate to buy an SE or 500 - checking Decathlon every day to see when stocks coming in!!
Quick question though for anyone that might be able to give me pointers, i'm 182cm and have a positive APE index (+2-3cm) with a fairly long leg. Some might even call me lanky..if i wasn't 98kg to go with it. Anyway, from reading the sizing guide on the forum as well as reading around, I seem to be sized height wise for the 57" frame - however with my long limbs it may be more suited to a 60"? Could anyone give me a few pointers as to which size would be best for someone just getting into riding?
I know the best test is to give the bike a test ride, unfortunately I live down in Plymouth, which is a days travel to the nearest Decathlon store.

182, similar height to me. A longer body would be more suited to a 60. If you are mainly long of leg at that height, I would go with the 57. That's what size I had (and have in the Pro Carbon) and it suits me fine.

Decided to get the 57, I can't really explain why. I rode both around and then road the 57 in the car park for a couple of mins and it felt comfortable. So not sure it will help anyone lol.

I'm not so sure either but it's your bed, it'll be perfectly functional, you'll just have a different path to those who would have chosen smaller as you'd adapt to any kit.

I've the same problem as you not sure exactly what size to go for and too far to travel - From Saltash so just across the water. I've been looking across the forum and other websites to try and find frame sizes to no avail.

My personal opinion is a road bike should be compact fitting for sporty / fitness riding. The disclaimer is that you need to be fairly fit and flexible, as well as ready to commit to a head down tail up position, if you are, then the borderline folks can go down rather than up a size. The Deca size guide is pretty good, it's a choice between 'sportive' or 'audax' style riding. Most borderline choices that opt upwards end up buying shorter stems, which with my philosophy of fit, suggests the size was too big in the first instance.

Thanks, according to that I would need a 57 as I'm 180cm so sit in the middle of the 57 and I have an ape index of +2cms. I've just checked my current MTB and measured the frame and the size is 54 however the seat post is to its Max, well just past its max!
