OKay, I'll go over everything that is on it. Microshift Levers rear and front derailleur, carbon fibre forks, aluminium frame SHIMANO SORA TRIPLE CRANKSET!! all for an extra Β£80 and they look pretty nice. The alur has got a confirmed date of 17/06/2014 for it arriving into warehouse so you're looking about 23rd+ before they arrive. What is the availability of 57cm frames like for the 500SE, @arny5triban ? I am waiting for a frame repair and the bike has been at Bolton for a few months now.

I just picked a 60 up for my Dad last night and the lad in the Glasgow store said the chances of getting any 57's in the next 6 months were pretty slim. They got 8 x 60s delivered on Wednesday and by last night had sold 3 of them. Cycled it home for him, and it feels lovely, makes me want to upgrade from my red one.

Nice bike, but sorry, I just don't see how that is an 'upgrade' from a red one?

It's exactly what many of the red owners did to upgrade, cranks, saddle, tyres, only thing missing is upgraded wheels and they're fine to start on as is, the Microshift is good starter kit, suits my lad far better than the thumb clickers would of done and the Sora cranks make all the difference - are you trolling ?

Well it's not worth upgrading from the Red to it, but it's a more solid starting point than the Red. The shifters on the current T3 are nicer than the 2300 ones on my Red T3, the thumb shifters are annoying.
Edit: Double posted with Rad.

Nope, just a valid opinion. The only thing 'better' I see on that is the sora crankset, and that's not leaps ahead of an ounce one. The Microshift -sora 2300 debate will always rumble on, but I now have full Ultegra setup, and can honestly say that I enjoyed the thumb shifters of the 2300. The new 500SE is still obviously a fantastic bike for the money, but just don't see how people have commented that it would be an upgrade on the original 3?
Not trolling Rad, isn't having an opinion what forums should be about? ;-)

Yep opinions are fine but the point is the upgrades on the bike are exactly what people actually did and proved to be a good move - it cost me a bit over Β£380 to get to where they're at now, when I did the initial first sweep of changes to the bike after a few months I was exactly where this bike is except they're already there with the starter bike ready to go (except for peddles, rear cassette and wheels) - I tried to like the clickers but having dabbled with my son's gears a fair bit, they're definitely a better choice and they've also proven more stable in use, so IMO the bike is more sorted out the box.

But the only useful difference is the crankset, otherwise Wheels, tyres, seat, seatpost, stem, brakepads are all ripe for upgrading on the 500 just like the 3? - just saying, like. ;-)

Nope, when compared to the red 3, the saddle is more neutral shaped and likely to suit a wider audience (I wouldn't have needed a new saddle with this version), the brakes IMO are more robust, the Microshift is IMO a more functional and robust bonus (it may even be better suited for a 28 rear gear - I'm not sure what its specified reach is - the red's rear struggled a bit with 28), the cranks are better, the tyres are better, nothing wrong with a standard seat post (still using mine) and stem (I had mine back on a while about 4 weeks back before going down to a 90mm for comfort on longer rides - it's the same weight as fancier models I've had), I get through brake pads in about 2 or 3 months now via going up and down bigger hills, so they're a consumable - we're 2 years on from 2012 and they've presented a bike which costs not a lot more but with a better set up ... I reckon you're on the wind up .

Think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one Rad. Although we can certainly agree that it is still a bloody good bike for the money! :-)

...and to answer you fully, the wheels are always up for grabs but are fine for a few thousand K when starting out - as a starter bike, I find it difficult to understand how people can go wrong, it's tweaked all the little things that original red owners did ... it's not a patch on Chris Froome's new Pinarello of course though. If you want a bike with a little more slickness you buy the T500 with its better groupo and 9 speed, if you want to dabble with road riding and are unsure how far you'll take it, then the SE is a pretty clever deal as well - if I project back to when buying mine and the first year or so of developing as a road rider, then the two models cover the path I and others went through almost exactly.

I didnt even notice before that 500SE comes with Sora crankset with external BB, that alone is worth spending 80 extra on top of T3
