Firefighter. Before that Royal Navy. They got rid of half the firefighters at my station, built travelodge style accommodation and now we do the work of two people, working an average 84 hour week. They tell me it is family friendly. I am taking early retirement in May and also taking a big hit on my pension. C'est la vie. Life is for living. As of 20 minutes ago, I no longer have a job... whooo hooo..!!

I work for a very large public transport provider in London. Great work, interesting subject matter and I've done time rolling out trains, bike lanes and all sorts

I work as a HR Analyst for the BBC. Was based in London but now work from home on the Isle of Wight. Mainly crunching numbers on staffing & analysing staff surveys etc. Started just before the recent scandals so it's not been a dull few years there, it has to be said. Just saw your post and realised we are in the same sort of work

Driver-airframes, for a large british airline. Before that, same job in the RAF. Been doing it since I was 18 and only 12 years to go to retirement . Already part time after realising that quality of life and time with the family is my personal priority.

Shame on you, grenoblet5a ! I have an unusual job as I'm an Independent Mental Health Advocate, Trainer and sometimes supervisor. I work with forensic patients mainly (the minority of people with mental health problems who have been in trouble with the law and are detained under the Mental Health Act in a secure hospital). I really enjoy my work. Many sad stories but some really brilliant experiences where people have turned their lives around. I deal with legal mental health rights and train Greater Manchester police occasionally, amongst others.

Admirable work sonnnet, and pretty challenging too I bet. (Still rather work with DelB though if I go for a career change :

(Still rather work with DelB though if I go for a career change : I'm not really a bra-fitter, but estate agent tends not to have quite the same response....................
