I work as a HR Analyst for the BBC. Was based in London but now work from home on the Isle of Wight. Mainly crunching numbers on staffing & analysing staff surveys etc. Started just before the recent scandals so it's not been a dull few years there, it has to be said. Is it anything like W1A?

Paraplanner for a firm of financial advisers, based in Liverpool.
the adviser visits the clients, gathers information, passes it to me and i write a report of recommendations for life cover, investments, trusts and pensions do the research for the most suitable products, pre-complete the relevant forms and hand back to the adviser to present to the client and obtain signatures.
its fairly varied but after 20 years in the industry I'm jaded and it doesn't sit too well with my morals these days (yes, i do have some) but I'm too far down the path to change and the employment landscape in this country isn't too conducive to switching vocations.
Its Monday to Friday so i get the weekends to go to the match and back on my bike.

Hi all,
done a few bits in the past - market trader in Brixton, postman, lived in Bogota teaching English, cleaner, chef, primary school teacher.
Currently I am a teacher for the Out of School Tuition service, which provides education for pupils unable to attend school - I am a real generalist, so I get kids from 6 to 16 for all subjects. There are basically 2 types of student; unwell pupils - sadly see a disturbing number with some acute mental health issues and behaviour pupils - excluded from school and all the Pupil Referral Units - for them I'm the absolute last chance for education (yes some of the kids are very challenging). The aim of the job is to get the kids back in school and enjoying education, or if they are in year 11 to pass their GCSEs. It's not just teaching, it's working with families to help solve long term problems. I think of it as social work though learning maths and English.
I love the job, it is fantastic. I am free to teach whatever the kids want to learn - anything to get them engaged and I can really makes a difference to kids' lives. another benefit is the travel - I work in their homes- so there is a lot of cycling - tho am glad the winter is done =). (i took one pupil this year because of the great ride to her house - up over snake pass and back over Mam Nick). I also love working part-time.
Couple of things I don't like - paperwork - im rubbish at forms, and derbyshire council love forms. Uncertainty (it's a zero hour job, sometimes 6 months with no cases, when i have to take some minimum wage job to pay the bills.
All in all - I love my job, it is very rewarding, emotional and fun.
