If your 2 hours drive away then the cycle home is out of the question I suppose! The Decathlon website does seem to be a bit of a lottery in what they show as in/out of stock from my experience.

Thinking again about that drive.....

Triban 500SE 54cm duly purchased, it was only 40 minutes drive actually, they seem pretty competent in Reading, so that was nice. Stopped off at the International Solidarity Centre for an Ethiopian lunch on the way, which is always good..... I was tempted to buy one for me in 60, but it's supposed to be my son's birthday, not mine I will see how it goes and then maybe buy me a full 500 in a month or so, if I'm struggling to keep up with him on my lump of iron.

1. 6 Foot 2. Trouser length size 34inches
1. £350 (ish)
2. £60
3. Helmet, bike locks
4. around 8 miles a day
5. Mainly commuting
Additional notes - I purchased a 'B'TWIN TRIBAN 500 SE Road Bike' from decathlon, I went to a chain called 'Evans cycles' and they informed me that the frame was too small for me, and that I would find it uncomfortable leaning over quite far, as well as this my knee was quite close to my arm. I will attempt to get a refund from the site (hopefully the 5 miles journey I did won't be an issue) The alternative appears to be a 60 inch frame, which i assume would be too large for me? I would appreciate any advice as to where I should go from here, as I am very eager to get back onto a road bike (the short journey I did, was amazing, 5 years on mountain bikes with suspensions)
Any help greatly appreciated. regards Tony

Another quick question guys, so far as locking my bike up, is there a particular bike lock that is reasonable in price and highly theft proof? Also where should i go if i want to get peddles and shoes that attach to the peddles that are comfortable / sturdy and not overpriced. Thanks for the advice, i'll be exchanging the bike for a 60" frame and will test it in store. Tony

Hi, not sure about the lock as I don't leave my bike anywhere other than home and work. For the shoes I have and would recommend the Shimano R088 (~£55) and for pedals the Shimano R550 (~£35).

Hey guys, thanks again for the advice, very helpful forum. I went to decathlon today, they were very happy for me to change my bike (i'd ridden it 13 miles) but they were happy with its condition after briefly glancing at it. I was recommended these shoes (which i purchased) www.decathlon.co.uk/road-cycling-shoes-3-black-id_8199403.htmlThe guy also fitted some pedals for me, the problem I now have is that it would seem i need some 'cleats?', i assumed if they did not come with the pedals he would have informed me, regardless, i'll head into town and try and find the correct ones. Normally cleats come with the pedals.
They're a quick buy in most bike shops and on the internet (£10ish) - but you need to make sure you get cleats which are compatible with your pedals.
Do you know what pedals the deca guy fitted?

Also a note on locks.
No lock is completely 'anti-theft', if a thief wants it they'll go to long lengths to steal it. Bigger bolt cutters, freezing the lock etc.
Just make sure you get bike insurance against theft (£30 a year), then as long as you have it locked up with a suitable standard lock (like the two mentioned earlier), if it does get nicked you can at least get your money back.
