How are you getting on with the ten speed @ianmoss? Big improvement over the 2x8 setup or not? Looks great on the bike but I'm not sure about value for money as I'm reasonably happy with the 2x8 setup for the moment.

Very happy with the 10 spd. 11-28 cassette, changes are so smooth. Sometimes with the close ratios, 13-18 ish, when pushing on, changing up is so swift you can't feel it through the pedals. Lovely!

Sub £250 for a 105 Groupie? WTF can I never find these offers?! I'm sure they'll have rocketed back up next spring when I have the money and start looking for potential upgrades. FFS. Looks stunning, Ian! Really not a big fan of black groupset stuff - the silver coloured stuff looks so much better.

Consider I didn't buy the chain set. - I think 300 is the going rate for full group at the moment.

I've got zero money now, having just bought a new house, but hopefully by the time the better weather rolls around I might have a spare few hunnerd for some upgrades (wheels at the very least!)

I got a FULL 5800 105 11 speed groupset from Ribble in August for £299. Think they're around £329 normally, which is still an awesome deal.

I got a FULL 5800 105 11 speed groupset from Ribble in August for £299. Think they're around £329 normally, which is still an awesome deal. My plan was to drip feed myself with 105 10 speed components over the winter. As expected I could not resist the urge and had to buy it all within a few weeks. Bugger. I opted for the silver finish as it compliments the RED nicely as I'm sure you'd agree delb! !. I did opt for the 11 speed chainset as I like the "look" of it. It's currently in a workshop being fitted I think.

New to me, Mavic Ksyrium SL wheels. No way are they going on the bike yet, not until the weather gets better and the roads are rid of all the winter crap. Saturday night, nothing to do, lets get em serviced. Open up bearings and new Shimano hub grease, remove the freehub, clean and lubricate with fresh mineral oil. They are in such good condition, they hardly took any cleaning. I'm going to treat them to a brand new 105 11-28 cassette and new 25mm Schwalbe One or Ultremo tyres (undecided which yet) Pre Clean:

New tyres and tubes today. Michelin Lition 2, nice lightweight folding tyre. once installed I give them a wipe down with a cloth to remove the white powder, however the whiteness returned as it dried. This is intact the release agent that is used to free the tyre from the modelling process. It needed to come off as 1. It repels water and causes the surface to be a little greasy. 2. Just plainly looks horrible. It will wear off with riding a few miles, but better safe than sorry and get it off. Tried rubbing with my thumb which brings it off in little pieces, similar to using an eraser on paper. (after a few inches my thumb was sore) - Soapy water on a cloth had no effect once dried. - A dry nailbrush from the bathroom did a great job! Now the rubber compound feels clean and tacky, I would say comparable to a Pro 4 Service Course tyre. Hope to get some good weather soon with a decent dry spell so I can give new setup a try. Difference, side by side: Half done:

Report back on the Lithium's. I've been running Service Course for a while now and haven't had 1 real world puncture (had 1 freak one with a shard of metal that destroyed the tyre). I'll be switching to 25's when they are done but the Lithium's are always a good bit cheaper.

I've had two punctures on Mich Pro4 on consecutive Sportives, received via rougher roads, flint like stones broke through - pay back for dissing the ones with the protective linings in perhaps, but then it might have pierced them as well?

ianmoss stop polishing and start riding. I don't want another 20 minute wait at the top of Holme Moss this year

I've had two P*******s on Mich Pro4 on consecutive Sportives, received via rougher roads, flint like stones broke through - pay back for dissing the ones with the protective linings in perhaps, but then it might have pierced them as well? Luck of the draw I think. 1 puncture in 3 years makes me think I have been very lucky, and that puncture would have flattened a tractor tyre. The roads around here are far from perfect so I'm lead to believe the tyres aren't that bad. I'll be going to 25's next time around for a bit more comfort but I have no reason to switch brands and worry that if I do then the puncture fairy will seek revenge on me.
