Last night I faced a question of where to put my iPhone.
Wanting to keep it safe. I wrapped it in a thick sweatband (clean) and ended up placing it my breast pocket of my thin running jacket. It was a sunny evening which didn't really warrant wearing anything other than a short sleeved cycling jersey. However I don't like placing the phone in the rear zipped pocket for fear of taking a tumble and it hitting the road..!
Just wondering what you guys think of mounting it on the stem does anyone use a system? are they any good or do they vibrate and wiggle around.
I don't think I'll use it as a tracking device to view all the time (I quite like Strava) as I think investing in a simpler wireless computer is a better option.
As I type I'm thinking that it might stick it in something padded and stuff it in the saddle bag!
Thoughts?

Stick mine in saddle bag, safest option I thought, if you fall off etc.

Saddle bag for my phone, under the saddle so fairly dry if have a shower and if I crash the saddle bag is usually fine unlike the rider (and my pockets!)

Thanks @perniciousviper looks pretty neat on the bike. I will make a considered choice after I get a proper cycle computer for live viewing of speed / distance. As @kombatcookie says, safe in a bag. Strava can sit there and log what it needs and can be saved at end of ride. Providing the GPS signal gets through my arse cheeks and into the saddle bag!

Another vote for saddle bag. I put my Samsung Galaxy S3 in there and it's a bit of a squeeze, as I have levers, patches, glue, chalk, multi-spanner, spare inner tube, keys and the phone, but it logs Strava just fine through the saddle and my arse

I stick my iPhone 4 inside a resealable sandwich bag, it then used to go in saddle bag but I now stick in the middle pocket of my jersey, if I'm using Google Maps for directions I can hear it from there when I'm slowing for a junction. It's 3 years old so looking to replace at some point, but I think when it is replaced I'll keep using it on the bike with a cheap PAYG SIM if needed.

If you can open this thread up to phones in general then here's my 2 penneth. I have logged nearly 2,500 miles on Strava using my Galaxy S3. At all times it has been in the middle rear pocket of my top. I have had 2 tumbles in this time and it stayed in the pocket and was not damaged. As previously said by another you can still hear it from there unlike if in a saddle bag which may reduce the GPS sensitivity also.

I got one of THESE phone holder bags. The transparent pocket on the front holds my Samsung Galaxy. You can operate the phone touchscreen through the clear window and the bag part is big enough for a spare tube, tyre leavers, a pair of latex gloves and my mini pump. Its quite neat when fitted.

Have a look online at the lifeproof cases mate i have one of those, waterproof dustproof and shockproof, then if you want to mount it you can buy the lifeproof bike mount, cracking case but i haven't tried any others to compare.

Thanks for your input guys, lots of solutions. I think, as now we should be getting some cooler weather (still glad summer is holding out though) I might stick to a top with a breast, map style pocket. I think also I might get some kind of hard shell case for the iPhone just as a bit of protection. - do I sound paranoid about harming my tech?
I can't believe, as a teenager when mobile phones were a sci-fi glimmer of hope away, that we use to ride miles into nowhere with only a pocket full of 10p to use in a pay phone!

So true!
When I first rode bikes, I used to wander about in the summer hols with a 'dawn til dusk' pass, 'just make sure you come home before it gets dark' type deal - asked my mother 'how far to the Severn Bridge?', response, 'too far, you don't want to go down there' ... apparently, my answer 'we've just been to Chepstow Castle' ... 20 mile round trip on just air and a prayer ... ah the 70's !!!

Halfway through a ride we decided to see what was beyond Scunthorpe, we ended up riding to Cleethorpes (80 miles and an youth hostel overnight stay). We were big boys, we had just left school an were invincible!
