Hi Ohoward, not really helpful, but I am seriously looking at one, but have not taken the plunge yet.
Looks v good value with full maps when compared to Garmin and is ANT+, so you can add peripherals like cadence and HRM, which is good.
Some of the reviews I have read say that it does not directly talk to Strava and manage GPX files, but I believe that the new software and website has now addressed this.
The only fly in the ointment is that there is a Bryton Rider 60 on its way, which is touch screen! I don't know how much this is, but it looks good.

Mine should be arriving tomorrow.
I'm aware of the 60 which is supposed to be out at the latter end of the month but I have a suspicion it's going to be around the Β£350-Β£400 mark so I've gone for the 50.

I'm watching this thread for your comments o. Are you planning to use your C14+ cadence sensor?

Nope but got the 35. The Bryton Bridge software and website is a lot better than it was.

I'm watching this thread for your comments o. Are you planning to use your C14+ cadence sensor? I'm planning to use both sensors from the C14+ until I next get paid and can afford the bryton dual sensor at which point I'll sell it. My understanding is that the supplied sensor (with the bryton) can be set for speed or cadence, but only one at a time. Cadence is more important to me and I'm not sure about the accuracy of gps based speed readings so this is the best option until then. I'll be sure to report here how I get on with it.

This is something I need to look into for all GPS based computers. Do they use the wheel magnet to work out speed or purely based on GPS. The fact Bryton are only giving youn the one sensor would suggest, you don't need to use it as speed sensor. I did some very quick research for work and it turns out GPS devices are actually more accurate as a speed indicator than speedometers in cars, thus I would assume sport GPS devices would be as accurate.

Really? Well if that is the case maybe I wont bother with the dual sensor. The gps chip in the 50 is supposed to be very good.
I think if a speed sensor is detected it will use that but that's just my intuition. Otherwise it makes the speed sensor completely redundant.

I'm just using the cadence sensor. I find there is no need for the speed sensor as the GPS hasn't let me down.

The Garmin GM10 (or something) sensor does cadence & speed in one. It's ANT+ but not sure it it works with other brand units.
I bought the June issue of Stuff magazine from one of those market stalls that sell out of date mags for a quid, in it they reviewed the Garmin 810, bryton rider 50 and an iPhone mounted. They got 5, 4 and 4 stars respectively.
The bryton was criticised for not being great at navigating on the fly, but great if you preload your route via gpx. It can't search for postcodes or building names it says and that's the biggest inconvenience, but you can get around it by searching for junctions instead.

The people at Cyclemeter (hardcore iPhone bike comp app) told me when I was asking about some data inaccuracies - caused by sensor placement - that GPS isn't very accurate when it comes to measuring speed. That's why so many bike computers, including Cyclemeter, uses sensor/magnet data. In the case of Cyclemeter, the app takes the reading from the sensor over and above the GPS, even though that is available, for improved accuracy.

Mind you, the Bryton is over half the price of the garmin so it's not really a fair comparison.

Would have liked to have seen that issue, sounds a good test...
