I think it is good value for what you get with carbon steerer and seatpost, quality saddle and wheels. Purely as a commuter it's better than you need and lacking mounts. As a replacement for your Mach that you might use more year round with Cruds for bad weather it makes more sense.

I like the looks of it too. But like rob, the lack of rackmounts just puts me off. I want my next bike to be light-tourer-ready, good for audax, and able to fit wide enough tires for dirt/gravel backroads which you get here and NZ. Anyway, there is no guarantee that we'll get the entire range in Aust when they open the store in Nov, than what you get in Europe. Basically I want a Gravel/Allroad bike since they came out. Something like: GT Grade Specalised Diverge (but obv not this one - something like it ) Merida Silex Norco Search Avanti AR Giro BTwin just doesn't have anything like this at the moment.

500afgf due next month, new 1x due in spring. no details as yet. This is from the reviews of the 520 in reply to someone giving it *** for not being a gravel bike (translated)
Good morning,

Thank you for your comment, I do not understand your 3/5 product rating unfortunately. This is a road bike with a purpose as described in the product description, the bike gravel will be presented next year, these are two different bikes. A strictly street bike is not meant to be used on a bike to work in the field.

Regards

WOJCIECH WIKTOR BTWIN MANAGER

I look forward to you posting your wife's detailed review in due course!
Scott.

I've just put something in another part of the forum - It was the SRAM Rival 520 version with Kysrium wheels. A ridiculous Β£449 in a 'Second life Sale' in Sheffield. Bottomline is there were a load of bikes returned or unsold and left in a warehouse to be 'disposed of'. Sheffield took them all and did a big sale, with bikes being at least 40% discounted. I'd looked at a Women's intermediate Triban the previous day in Portsmouth (on holiday) for Β£499 and thought it was too heavy. I then started looking at 2nd hand Ultras on Ebay. I made a couple of inquiries and then I took a punt on phoning Sheffield to see what they had in S - They told me about the AFGF and that they had an RC 500. When they told me the price, and since I wanted a lighter bike, I went for the AFGF without asking any more questions! The ironic thing is she probably wont even ride the bloody thing!

Sounds like you got lucky with a real bargain there. Good for the folk in the Sheffield area.

Sounds like you got lucky with a real bargain there. Good for the folk in the Sheffield area. Not just those in the Sheffield area - I am 3 hours away from Sheffield. I had to sort our a courier (they couldn't deliver) and was lucky that a friend was passing. However, I still get the Decathlon warranty and could have sent it back or taken it back if there was an issue. To my way of thinking, saving hundreds of pounds, I wouldn't have cared if there was a scratch or blemish. If there had been a mechanical problem or crack etc I could have taken it into my local Decathlon.

Wow - I thought that I got a good deal on my AFGF520! That price doesn't cover the cost of the components! It's a great bike and those 28mm tyres handle poor surfaces so well. The only negatives that I could find in any reviews were the lack of rack mounting points and the external cabling. I'm not bothered about the lack of rack mounting points cos I have my T3 set up as a light tourer on 25mm tyres and Raceblades. Suppose that you could use P clips if you really wanted to. As for external cabling; I do all my own maintenance and think that internal cabling is a pain in the ar$e. I hope that she has many happy km on it :-)
