Super effort Rob. Had to miss my local ParkRun this morning as I had a hot date with couple of bag set of plaster and a trowel. I'll pop out pre breakfast tomorrow for either a long tempo run or a 5k effort around my village before another days DIY. edit - 19:23 5k this morning, not the fastest for me but I was pleased to -ve split each mile www.strava.com/activities/924345220

Do any of you do duathalons? Thinking of entering a small local one (2k run, 10mile bike, 2k run). But few queries on what to wear...cycle shorts with thin pad was my guess rather than full bib shorts? Also shoes..would people change shoes or stick flats on TT bike and ride in trainers???

I've raced a few Robert and have worn a tri suit for them which is effectively a pair of bibs with more material up top and a thin pad. During training I've done a few turbo then run sessions wearing my normal bins (with medium thickness pad) and not experienced any rubbing of chaffing while running. My advise would be to try running in the bike shorts you have.
All my races have been longer distances on both runs and bike so I swapped shoes. With elastic laces on my runners and Velcro on my bike shoes this only takes seconds but for your first one you could easily go with flats (with toe clips?) to avoid changing shoes. If you do that do remember to loosen the clips at the dismount line or, like a friend of mine used to wearing cleats, you could easily forget, try to twist out and up taking a tumble.

Cheers for that. I have got pair of cycle shorts with thin pad that thought would be good half way. Can't decide on shoes...what areelastic laces!

Basically a piece of thin bungee cord to replace the normal laces. Fitted with a spring loaded locking device at the end to tighten. Loads of places sell them. I've used branded ones from Ultimate Performance and cheap ones off Amazon/eBay, both work as expected.

Elastic laces rock my world. I have kept them for normal running too.
I swapped shoes on an even shorter duathlon, I can't stand flats.

Same for me, all my running shoes, 2 road shoes that I rotate and a pair of of trail shoes, have elastic laces. My kids also have them in their trainers because they can slip them on quick and not bother doing up the laces.

Likely a bit late, but I got mine in Sports Direct, 2 pairs for Β£3! Did Easter Saturday park run with the junior runner - her 2nd fastest 5k, despite it being decidely windy. Did a bit of coaching, teaching her to run in my draught to keep out of the head wind... and it was strong enough she said she could tell the difference if she dropped behind. Was very proud of her, she paces herself really well, and even when she thinks she's finished, always manages to get a bit more for the last few 100m. She's meant to be starting with the local athletics club at her Mum's in a few weeks (they won't take them until 8)... she's really looking forward to it - thoguh I suspect she has triathlons in her future, because she loves swimming too (and lacks confidence to ride a bike). www.strava.com/activities/942798017

Just ran my 200th mile of the year this lunchtime. I've been finding running hard work of late, not sure why but I just seem to be somewhat slower for no apparent reason, and finding it tough even at a slower pace. Last few runs have picked up in pace, though, so hopefully I'm on my way out of my slump.
Unfortunately due to family commitments and holiday I did not make my "half-marathon-a-month" target in April, having done so in January, February and March. So, does that mean I need to do two in May?

I go through phases like that Joby, where everything feels like a massive effort and the pace is rubbish. Sounds like you are on the way up which is good news. Just checked my run miles for the year. After my run this lunch I'll be just short of 300 miles (296 ish) which is spot on my miles for this time last year. Pretty pleased with that as I've had a few weeks of inactivity due to illness and holidays. My bike miles are hopeless in comparison but working x2 jobs means I can't commute and getting out on the bike at the weekends is difficult - being made redundant from one job next Wednesday can't come quickly enough
