Should we have a thread about races we might be doing and reports from those we've done?
Did the KISS Europe Cat C race last night, I'm very close to the crossover between Cat C and Cat B so I knew I'd be close to the front. Pushed the pace in the first two laps and really thought I'd have worn the others out but they had an extra bit of speed at the end that I didn't, so I ended up being dropped in the last lap.
Still got 6th and it was a fun workout so all's good!
I think the key to zwift race success (as with real racing) if you are good enough to win, is to hide in the wheels until the end, be it in a sprint or an attack on a last climb etc. Very few early breaks stick.
Agreed - the couple of Cat C races I've won or podiumed on all had same format - blast like hell for first 2 mins or so...that makes the leading group. Then hide in the wheels, cover any attacks unless solo - they won't stay away and some sucker will always chase for you. Then with few miles to go start covering attacks more aggressively/ attack yourself then sprint like hell for the win!
Good race. Nice to have friendly face RobP . Standard Cat C race...bat poo mental for first 2 mins to make the cut then fast for another few mins. If can make the cut then settles down and quite comfortable to stay in leading group of about 20 using the draft. 3-4 people managed to get away which I missed unfortunately but figured they'd be way over cat C limits so wasn't too worried. Pace picked up on last lap (2.6miles per lap) and people dropping off. Stayed towards front then sprinted past everyone to lead group over the line. Provisional 5th but sure the 4 ahead will be disqualified....I'm right on limit so not sure if will also be DQ or not. Funny thing was about 1min after finish my phone had funny turn and stopped link to my pc so my power dropped out completely! How was your race Rob - looked like you cut out dew times?

That sounds a fair summary of the race although as a newcomer to Cat C the increase in pace is noticeable according to my Strava it was a full on Sufferfest based on heart rate with me at threshold rate for 84% of race so very little recovery time www.strava.com/activities/875024585/heartrate
Saw you disappear up the road robertsims in first lap and could tell wasn't going to keep up with you as you were lapping 11secs quicker than me on first lap and you never appeared on the screen riders nearby for rest of race. You ended up finishing 4 mins ahead of me
Didn't suffer any drop outs but think the app struggles on a circuit race as there was you and another guy I know from my area in the race who was behind me and I could only see you on the app when we were on same lap so you both kept disappearing and reappearing
All in all enjoyed the race and a good 1 hour workout. Happy with the move to Cat C as would have been DQ'd from D cat again based on the numbers. Onwards and upwards finished 34 out of 58
Well, that was hard... but got 7th in the As. Held the lead group until 1/2 way up box hill, when the group shattered, held the second group, who slowly gathered people dropping from the front and attacked up box hill on the 3rd lap. 3 cam with me to duke it out for the chase group honours, I was a very close 2nd in the sprint, which was apparently 7th overall on zwiftpower. - dead chuffed with that. www.strava.com/activities/877279230

Didnt have it in the legs tonight and it shows in my average power. Would have been within the limits for Cat D and my time would have got me 3rd place but stuck with the Cat C and ended up 35th in a very fractured field. The second ascent of box hill was the final nail in the coffin for me but that was third night of zwift in a row this week
