Hi guys,
I've had my Triban 3 (red) for just over a year and I've done about 500 miles. Now there's a clunking noise when I pedal. It feels like the bottom bracket is grinding a bit too. So, I'm thinking of servicing the bottom bracket. Can you guys help me with the following please?
1. Does the Triban 3 (red) come with a sealed bottom bracket? 2. Is the chain ring side a left hand thread? 3. Is the non chain ring side a right hand thread?
Can the real wheel hub be serviced (bearings re-greased)? How about the front wheel?
I used to own a mountain bike and I could service both wheels and the bottom bracket myself. However, both hubs and the bottom bracket on the Triban 3 looks very different to what I am used to. So, just wanting to get as much info as I can get before I dive in and break my bike :-(
Thanks in advance guys!

BB is a sealed unit so not really serviceable. Replace with a square taper 68 x 115 standard one like THIS

The frame is the same 68mm english thread but the type of chainset fitted will need a different bearing. Is yours Claris or Sora?

It's a Shimano Claris. Octalink. I had a clicking noise coming from the BB area and to cut a long story short, I dropped it in at my lbs for them to have a look. Apparently there wasn't any trace of grease in there at all. He cleaned it up and re-greased it and now it's running quietly and smoothly. I'd heard that Btwin were a bit tight on grease so I did the front and rear wheels myself last week, and they too were very light on the lubrication front. I can only assume that the BB is not a sealed unit on this model then! Many thanks for your reply to me.

The Claris has a sealed cartridge bottom bracket but a bit of grease when it's installed is a good idea. I think they put so much grease on the seatpost there's none left for the important bits.

Thanks Chas, that's really helpful. I've just looked on eBay for the octalink version (v1 I believe) but they all seem to be either 118 or 113....I'll have a measure up and I might buy one so I have it ready for when it's needed. Next time I need a handful of grease, I'll take the seat post out and use some from there βΊοΈ

Hi guys, thanks for all your help. I got the bike (Triban 3 red) checked by Decathlon and they said that the BB needs replacing. The chain and the cassette also need replacing. It is weird as I've only done about 700 miles on it :-)

It is weird as I've only done about 700 miles on it :-) Doesn't seem wierd to me, my stock chain got to 500 miles, I changed it then and so the cassette wasn't borked too. My BB reached 800, but it did little wet riding. The stock parts weren't especially high quality.
