Summer is steady coming, so today I decided to put my 'summer wheels' on to my Alur 700, which I upgraded a lot over winter. So I may call it now Alur 740 Total weight is down to 17,4 pounds / 7,9kg. Replaced components: Crankset: Shimano 105 5800 Handlebar: Ritchey WCS Evo Curve Seatpost: Ritchey Comp Carbon Cablehousing & Wires: Jagwire Elite Road Wheels: Campangolo Zonda Tubes: Continental Race Light Tires: Veloflex Master 25 Saddle: Selle Italia SLR S3 Quick releases: no-name titan, alloy and carbon based ones. Maybe going to replace the stem too, but it is difficult to find a lighter one than the one installed from Ritchey with a good price. Everything else has been on sale and bought with big discounts. I had a short test ride today and I was flying! Looking forward for my next long ride this week. Maybe the pics can give you some inspiration on updating your bike

I don't normally like the look of the Zondas, but they suit that bike perfectly

Lovely looking beastie, even if it is a very dark shade of red*. The tyres are the business, I didn't know you could still get them looking like that. Tres retro. *By way of proof Guinness is actually red rather than black, or so they told us when I did the tour. The number of people who went around the brewery but didn't like the product surprised me. I had more than a few free pints that day. Ah, happy, happy memories...

When I went to Dublin a few years ago I didn't like the smell of the Guinness factory from about a mile away

7.9kg? Very impressive for an Alu frame. Tidy looking bike.
If you don't mind me asking, what has been the total cost so far of the bike and upgrades?

Looking Good, keep up the hard work and enjoy the ride.
I to have an Alur 700 but its fairly standard as it come from the shop. I have done about 200 miles on it so far and its been a good treat. Thankfully no punchers yet. A mix mode of road and cannel gravely routes have been not bad.
Id like to ask the key differences with your upgraded Crankset: Shimano 105 5800 to the standard Comp1 Crankset it has on their?
Is peddling now been improved ?
I am new to all this so please bare with me. I am not as clued up as some of the users here.
Thanks J

Thanks to all for the positive comments! 7.9kg? Very impressive for an Alu frame. Tidy looking bike. If you don't mind me asking, what has been the total cost so far of the bike and upgrades? To much With the money spend in upgrading the parts I'm not to far away from simply buying an Ultra 900. Looking Good, keep up the hard work and enjoy the ride. The Pro Wheel crank isn't that bad but with the 5800 shifting feels much better and is more silent.

Did the Shimano crankset fit straight on or did you have to change the bottom bracket?
