Morning all....
I'm in the market for a turbo trainer.... Got around £250 max to spend, but ideally I would get the riser block and a turbo tyre included for that cost...
Requirements - relatively quiet, due to kids sleeping.... What do people recommend? Needs to be compatible with trainer road

If you have £250 to spend, and want quiet, you want fluid. But then this threw me: "Needs to be compatible with trainer road" - ANY turbo you buy over ~£75 would be trainer road compatible I'd imagine as they seem to have the power curve for everything (but not the btwin one - that isn't powerful enough... I regret buying it now, I can't stand on it or I just spin out - still it does OK for a mock TT, but no sprint intervals for me). So does that mean you are after a digital one? In which case I doubt you'll be getting new inside your budget.
If not, the Cycleops Fluid 2 seems to be the best around.... I'm on the lookout for a cheap second hand one but so far no good.

Just opening this thread up for a bit of advice. My son is recovering from a major knee operation and the physio asked whether he had access to an exercise bike. He is only going to 'need to ride like Miss Marple' as she put it. But I started to think about a dual purpose option So, I'm about to look at turbo trainers. I'd want to be able to set up the boy's MTB to begin with so that he can use it to aid his recovery. But, at some point, I'll want to get my bike on to is, so that a rather large gentleman, like myself, can use it to 'ride like the wind'! Budget is as low as I can get away with, but I don't want to buy rubbish! Any recommendations?

Never got one in the end. Borrowed one for a friend. But, now winter is coming, the son has another operation and Aldi have one for £50 on Thursday: www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/thur-24-sep/product-detail/ps/p/turbo-trainer/Should I go for it, or wouldn't you touch it with a barge pole? P.S: For the son, its just about turning his legs after the operation. For me, its just about burning a few calories, not about training to become an athlete. P.P.S: So, if I get one, what else do I need to get? I assume I just have my Garmin running away to get my HRM and cadence details. Do I just then put a laptop infront of the bike and play Youtube stuff? Do I get specific dvds?

Hello! Anyone on the forum who uses a turbo trainer? The Aldi sale is tomorrow. Need some advice pretty please. Looks similar to an earlier Elite mag I used to have. I'm sure it will do the job and it's not overly priced. Depending on where/when it's going to be used Paul noise may be an issue, same as the Elite was.

Use mine a lot lately but no idea about aldi one. Mine is a cycleops fluid 2 and think it's v good.
In terms of what need...In theory nothing except bike and turbo at a minimum (maybe skewer to fit turbo but usually comes with turbo). Most people have a block for front wheel (brick or yellow pages will work). Then some sort of speed sensor for back wheel if you want and some entertainment again if you want.

Thought long and hard about this. As of last night I'd convinced myself to get one.
As of this morning I decided against it. I can borrow one from a friend for son's rehab and I've got a gym membership. The gym has spinning classes and bikes that I can use anytime - I've also got wet weather gear too!

But I ain't got no 'icy patches' gear! Bored with the gym. Want to get on my bike! Friend just won a Kinetic trainer, which has got me wanting a turbo trainer again!

You can have Rob's cast-off (if OK with him) but it's an off-cast for a reason (sorry Rob) - it'll do as a stop gap but one that runs smoothly without sounding like a Boeing 747 is a better long term choice, that's if you're going to do it properly.

Totally fine by me - I got rid of it because of the noise but if someone can get some use out of it then go ahead! It is a little...indiscreet shall we say!
