I'm not sure it really matters, since the number of active members is dwindling. Could call it "Iron Man sex tape on a bike" for all the difference it will make. Sadly, that's what I thought. However, I think I would have said 'has' dwindled, as it seems to have been the same sad state of affairs for over a year. I keep looking in a couple of times every day and feel very sad.

Can't help but agree with the last couple of posters. I know it's been discussed before, but even in the past few months the level of activity appears to have dropped again. It's a vicious circle - the less people post, the less likely others are to post, and so on.

I'm thinking that the boom in cycling from 2012 when Wiggins won the TDF has now bust. Everyone who wants a bike has one. Membership in all the cycling clubs I'm in has ceased to increase. Most of our early members no longer own a Decathlon bike so have moved on.
I'm still prepared to keep the forum running as I made promises when I took it on so let's see what Decathlon decides to name their new high end bikes before we choose a new forum name to encompass all.

I think you are spot on there Roy. I watched Wiggins ride the TDF in the Pyrenees in 2012 and it did inspire me to buy a road bike. Not being in the first flush of youth, I was a bit nervous about getting into the lycra/mamil scene. The RED Triban 3 had great reviews at the time and at Β£299 was not much of a risk so I took a punt and I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions of my life. Also joining the then Triban Owners Club was great because most of us were in the same situation not knowing much about bikes and cycling in general but looking to learn. This friendly generally non judgemental forum has been a great place to share and gather information. It used to be my first login of the morning. As you point out though it was fairly predictable that we would move on as I have done. I joined a cycling club 3 years ago and as one of the more senior members, I now tend to be the person who people come for advice on technical problems. I am pleased to say that possibly against the national trend our numbers are increasing. We are even getting people to turn out on cold dark wet evenings this Autumn whereas last year everyone gave up when the clocks went back. It is sad that the numbers have dwindled. I believe we had 2,000 members at one stage but I reckon there are only a handful that are still active now. The "retirement" of Radchenister was a major loss as his contribution was immense. If you ever do logon Toby, you still owe me that beer! Anyway your efforts to keep it going Roy are appreciated by me at least but I fear the writing is on the wall.

We'll said phred . I've just been through the members list & there are still quite a few persons that log in but don't seem to post anything for what ever reason βΉ which is a shame because any in put by new members would be good. Like phred said it's a friendly site with good knowledge of all things cycling SO POST YOU BUGGERS π€£ & help to keep it going π

I'm still alive ... ... but had a few issues last year, just life stuff, some setbacks that I won't dwell on too much as they're behind now. I've not been on my bike much since the end of the year. I was getting into racing CX but things went a bit pear shaped, injuries and illness took hold, as well as other pressures. I lost my mojo a bit, but I do occasionally go out and ride my CX bike again now; I might get back on it next year, but it's been something of a sabbatical for me. Unfortunately, the forum is a bit quiet now as well; tbh, it's something of a fond memory now and I just dropped in on the off chance today, as it's the start of the TdF tomorrow (as well as my daughter's birthday). It looks like it's still here though, and it's nice to see the familiar old names still active ... and why not, leave it running I reckon, as it's a good resource, as well as a snapshot of the good times from around 2012 onwards - that is unless Rocket wants to retire it, understandable too, if it's become a bit of a hassle. I don't really do nostalgia too much mind, but we should celebrate what a good community it's been to date, I have made some great, genuine, life long friends from this place, and it's led to some amazing times in the real world. It's also a rare oasis of decency, one that sometimes seems alien on the internet these days, but ho-hum, c'est la vie, et vive le tour, hope everyone's doing well, keep on rolling folks!

Ah, and that avatar pic is from three years ago yesterday (July 4th 2016), when leaving Saint Lo the day after the tour left town; good times.

Maybe tomorrow is a good day to motivate yourself to get down to Hill for some Β£1 slabs of glorious WI cake Mr Radchenister ? Must admit that I do do nostalgia and was thinking yesterday about the old TdF challenges that we used to do on the forum and the struggle I had keeping up with the group on the TOC/BROC ride you organised. That motivated me to improve....significantly!

I tend to leave the cycling club to it now, helped build it up, then onto new things, as these things can become like a job. Currently trying to get my Concept 2K row time below 7 minutes, it's a gym day tomorrow. Might get out on bike sometime this week.

Radchenister good to see you about... funnily been feeling a bit nostalgic since I did an audax perm a couple of weeks ago from Huddersfield station and remembering meeting there for the Holme Moss TdF ride we did.
