Personally I always wear one, even for short journeys. What about you?

Having woken up in the back of an ambulance with a split helmet I know the value of them. As a motorcyclist they are mandatory and have helped me out there too. Think they should be compulsory for cyclists too. If it's too hot to wear your safety gear then it's too hot to go for a ride we always say.

indeed so, too many serious injuries occur from relatively simple falls or collisions.

Most definitely. I have a two young sons and a Mrs to consider. If I fall off my bike at speed, broken bones will repair in time. No helmet could mean factured skull / brain damage or even worse. I think it should be law to wear them.

After knowing a guy who rode without one - and needed forehead reconstruction after a rangerover pulled out on him and he went through the side window - I always wear a helmet. He is back on a bike now ( it took 9 years ) and wears a helmet now every time.

Yes, 99% of the time (except when nipping a few hundred yards to the bus stop to meet son off school bus).

Always picked the bike and helmet together. Now have 2 bikes and 3 helmets. Really scares me when I see cyclists without a helmet. Married to nurse that has seen youngsters hurt because of a lack of helmet and worse really convinced me that it is a necessity.

Always. Came off on New Year's Day and had a close encounter with the tarmac. With the helmet I've still got a bruise from my forehead to down behind my ear. I dread to think what would have happened without it.

Most definitely. It's not just for my safety but it sets a good example for my kids. Always insist on my lad wearing one whether he's on his bike or scooter. He's only 5 but has already got the message, he even points to people he sees on a bike without a helmet and says they are naughty for not wearing one.

Yes, all the time. Got knocked off a few years ago by a car door without one. My shoulder took the brunt of the landing but I won't go out without a helmet now.

Always. Not that it's really made a difference in any of the 3 falls I've had (possibly saved a slight bump this last time) but I know that could change and I'm not going to risk it. Just doesn't feel right not wearing one now, it's like driving without a seat belt on.

Every time for me. It sets a good example for my kids and also, having seen a work colleague hit a wall at high speed with one on and walk away, it always seems worth it!

It doesn't take much, a friend of my Dads died after hitting his head on a kerb. He was only on a test around the street having adjusting his gears.
