I've never attended any cycling events such as the TdF or ToB therefore apologies for the daft question. Do you really get to see that much?
Is there more to it than a lot of standing around waiting chewing the fat with other people (nowt wrong with that), a flurry of activity for a few mins as the cyclists whizz past, then come home.
Feels like an opportunity not to miss but it would take some considerable logistics at home for me to attend.

Wondering how much of this price hiking is big fish baiting? Get the word out it's pricey, likely to be in short supply etc then wait for a few willing to pay through the nose to bite. Can't see too many foreign visitors bothering as they'll wait until it gets somewhere warmer. I would rather cut out the hassle and watch on TV, have a ride or two around the locality in the time saved traveling or go to France for less money, rather than pay silly money to lay in a field and see a 30 second peleton fly by. I very much agree with you rad. I was thinking of going to Yorkshire too, but I decided it was better to stay on the good side of the missus and watch it on the telly. I am supporting by buying the jersey and cheering off the couch!

@vulpesantiquus I'm riding over there with Barnsley Road Club. Sign makes a good Photo Op.
@al, events I've been to before, there is usually a massive cavalcade before and after the event, if you go to the start or finish or a major town on the route there are usually sponsors and other people promoting stuff, giving out free stuff. Worth going to: 1 say you were there 2 spotting yourself on TV later that evening!!! It was touch and go as my Mrs want's to go to British GP at Silverstone (same weekend) we've decided to go to Friday practice.

Looks like a Cadac travel BBQ, I've got one. See link below. Most caravan shops sell them, or they did when we got ours a couple of years back. www.cadac.uk.com/products/index.php?section=1&cid=18

It's a Skottel braai(bbq) - originally from South Africa, skottel is Afrikaans for dish/bowl. A mates dad actually used a cast iron ploughwheel with three legs welded on the bottom - light a fire underneath and off you go. Lekker kos!

Somewhere along Cragg Vale could be your best bet.

There's the publicity caravan beforehand which is like a mini mardi gras parade of sponsors' floats chucking out freebies about an hour before the riders arrive. It's usually tat, but some stuff is good. I have an Eu trolley coin from a few years back which has been ideal for trips abroad.
