Just been looking on the internet and as I feared if you want to camp in Yorkshire to watch the tour you are looking at a £100 per night per pitch which is a rip off . I stayed 6k outside Tours (France) last year and paid 10 euros a night for a pitch looks like I will be watching the tour de France in France again next year Mike

Firstly welcome. Secondly the TOC aren't usually easily beaten . There will be other options - train up a bit, or drive nearer and cycle to a spot, should offer a hundred mile plus radius for each viewpoint. I cycled to Caerphilly and back from the Severn Bridge for the ToB.

Welcome mikec. Where have you had £100 per night pitch fees quoted? That is a complete rip off Think we ought to name and shame some of these rogues. It would be a whole lot cheaper booking into hotels now as most wouldn't even be aware of the tour coming through Yorkshire. Seems ages away! You could always camp in my back garden for £50 per night including toilet and shower facilities! Sorry, no BBQ's. (Unless you invite me!)

Think I'll be parking up away from the race route and riding to somewhere interesting to watch. Camping out somewhere would be nice but this country just doesn't have the tradition of cheap/free camping that you find on the other side of the channel.

I'll probably be camping wild somewhere up near Tan Hill. It will probably be mobbed with campers behind the Inn.

I got an email from Mason's offering a pitch w/o electric for £240 for 4 nights, but that's based on 4 sharing and they also offer smaller pitches for cyclists/hikers for £15pn (works out the same price if you do the maths!) Also I think it's Otley or Ilkley cycle club who are hiring a field from the local farmer and selling cheap pitches but I'm not sure what the facilities are like (might be worth a google).

Wondering how much of this price hiking is big fish baiting? Get the word out it's pricey, likely to be in short supply etc then wait for a few willing to pay through the nose to bite. Can't see too many foreign visitors bothering as they'll wait until it gets somewhere warmer. I would rather cut out the hassle and watch on TV, have a ride or two around the locality in the time saved traveling or go to France for less money, rather than pay silly money to lay in a field and see a 30 second peleton fly by.

m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-2422797810 million flowing that direction already but not enough to cover the Policing bill apparently; best stay away I reckon as the streets will be full of SKY black shirted thugs fighting Garmin tartan clad hooligans .

I live 8 mins drive from a brilliant view point. Garden pitch available as long as you don't mind the dog hanging onto your leg. She's a bit protective. Plasters provided free. I'm going to stay put and cycle down.
