What are people's thoughts on having whey protein post ride? Started my training for ride London and thinking it may be of some help once I start hitting some of the longer rides. Interested in hearing of people's thoughts and experiences

Interesting topic as my lad has been using it for a while and says it helps him. He has a recovery protein shake after our Saturday rides and often has one on a Friday at the end of a weeks commutes too.
Decided to try myself as SIS has a half price offer on the tubs of Whey Protein. Had the first one after two hour session at the velodrome Monday night. Tasted awful and not convinced did anything but will use it now I have it and see how it goes

+1 from me on this. Sardines in tomato sauce on wholemeal toast... Cheaper than chips, balanced breakfast/lunch/dinner of champions...! Mmmmm... is it nearly lunchtime...?

I'm convinced it helps my recovery, but little else. I do have a shake after a particularly big ride/effort, or if I did a decent session and am intending a big one the next day. Otherwise I just eat real food.

I mix real food with shakes and bars depending on time of day and activity.
Swimming (early morning) - I'll eat a protein bar (Hike banana bars from Aldi) on the 30 min drive from the pool to work, then have a bowl of cereal at work.
Running - after lunch time runs I'll have a sandwich and a tin of Mackerel in brine or olive oil. I tried sardines but find them too salty. After late night runs I fine drinking a shake easier to digest when going to bed rather than real food.
Cycling - after a ride or a hard turbo session I'll have some peanut butter on toast and a banana.

Good job there's none in the house at the moment!

Yes, use it after every decent ride. Also use it in my breakfast smoothies etc on a daily basis. You can get a big bag of Whey much cheaper than paying for SIS, High5 etc Recovery drinks.

When I commute to work around 6am I mix some ready-brek with strawberry whey protein for breakfast, which I have around 9.30am once I have settled in to work.

Just noticed this thread. I've just started (this week) trying the Aptonia Chocolate drink - nice taste. 300ml twice a day after cycling to work. At the moment the bike to work is 2 or 3 days a week.
This was for my arm muscles post accident. Early days of course but like a lot of others - I love a tuna/mayo sandwich and always have done. The trial with the Whey drink is alongside an introduction to sardines/toast mid morning.
I'm not in the search for race/training ideas. This purely for how my whole body feels during the day.
Report in a week or two on if it works.

Well, arm and fitness feels like it's improved. How much is down to the Whey is suspect, and probably just because I want it to work. I'll stick with the varied diet thanks. (And avoid the stress when the packet is getting low and have to go buy some more)
