Final xray done - healed! Wall and table push ups starting tomorrow. The doc said I might get some irritation from the pins and wire down the line. I can have them removed if needed. Asked the doc for a copy of today's xray for my records. Being back at work doing gentle tasks has really reduced the pain at the extremes of rotation and bending.

Well maybe too early to brag about push ups - I can do around 5 (cheating table ones) Physio on Monday afternoon got me to concentrate on arm extension and twisting. New exercises were push palms together and see how far I could slide the elbows apart on the table to bend my wrist back (like praying). Opposite was backs of hands together and push gently.
She said - and I agree, that strength will come with time. The important first thing is range of movement of the whole arm/hand that has been sat doing zero for weeks. Thought the pins/wire were starting to be a problem last week, but it's been ok the last few days.
Nothing at all planned for the weekend to recover from work! Ha, even holding a cup of coffee at slightly the wrong angle gives a bit of tendon pain. I've re-thought the back to bike point and it's still over a month away - even for the first trip around the block trial.
Stay safe folks.

I can touch my shoulder! Fingertips yes, but definitely touch. The whole weekend off worked a treat. Trouble was - I did a bit of lifting in work and the inside of the elbow aches a bit. Back to bike point was going to be this weekend - just 10 mins to see how it was. I feel just about strong enough now. Did some housework instead - I would have had to put the new tyre on the new front wheel before going out. This is a job for mid-week to try the bike next weekend. new physio stretching is working so I must keep it up.

Thanks Robert, I'm getting fired up and looking forward to the fresh air again. Oh, hang on, where's all my bike gear? Lol There's a chap I see every day - same route different directions, I stopped once to say hello and exchange names, Ian must be thinking where have I gone. I've seen him from the car while getting better and want to say why. Wet weather jacket has been washed and aired, just the Evans vouchers to spend now.

Not been on the bike, elbow pain today, compensation cheque arrived. I went swimming Tuesday before work - the pool opens at 7am and was busy with old folk! I did around 10 slow lengths (with rests) and it felt great, until the next day. My shoulders and neck needed the week off! At least the water was warm, I'll keep it up for a few weeks. I'm happier with a very gentle stretch/arm extend (upper arm on a pillow, forearm hanging loose for half an hour) rather than 2 minutes lifting 500g a few times a day. I feel this works for me what with all the lifting stuff at work. Stay safe out there folks.

I damaged my shoulder quite badly in a motorcycle accident years ago. I broke the socket and tore the cartilage inside as well as a clean break through the upper arm which got plated. The lasting damage is a 10% loss of rotation (can't put my arm behind me very far) and no muscle regrowth at the front of the ball (top of the arm). Anyway, what I wanted to say was, as you progress with recovery, if its anything like mine some nerves will give you pain out of no where just for a few days here and there then disappear. Then maybe 6 months after the last blast you'll get a similar thing from a different bunch. so it goes on. I think this was something to do with a very slow rejuvenation of things that were all but done for. I don't remember having this for probably 5 years now, maybe I'm done. Good Luck with it!

Thanks Bornagain, it's a reminder that I'm still in early/mid days recovery. More swimming done, switched the tyres from 23mm to the new 25mm ones I had so the bike is ready. (The Decathlon Resist brand are a lot easier to fit than the Vittoria I have used a few times.) Housework (painting and a tiny bit of gardening) yesterday but the arm feels ok. (Pins and wire irritation is something to discuss with the physio on Tuesday) Workmate has lent me his Bullworker! I think that's too much at the moment. Still happy to push to the pain barrier with hand/wrist stretching. I'm taking the bike in the car to work next week. The way I see it, 10 mins on the bike lunchtime (purely for light this time of year), see how the arm is. A day or two for recovery and increase the time by 5 mins each day and see how the arm is. This must be straight/turning/hills, downhill etc, we've got the roads that can do this near work. I'd hate to think that after 20 mins I'd think everything is ok and back to normal, the next day be stuck halfway to work with a bad arm! Stay safe folks.

No bike. Tricep pain has flared up after the painting last week. So much so I've thought about using the sling again once or twice. Complete rest this weekend, physio was happy with my improvements which spurned me on to keep up with the exercises. Got one more session in 5 weeks which will be my last. Still feeling the pins and wire - procrastinating about arranging removal.

Back on the bike! Well, only 15 mins last night but no big issues during the test ride or today. A little wobbly when steering with the right while indicating left but nothing to worry about. Physio was yesterday morning and we both agreed it was the last session. Very pleased with the recovery, I'll do a 25 min ride at the weekend and I should be back commuting next week. Spent the Evans vouchers getting a pair of gloves and a nutrition pack.
Just in time for the good weather!

This will probably my last post about this. I had the 25/30 min ride a couple of days ago - all fine with no aches. Out of breath a little though! When they fix the hot water in work for the shower - Gas bloke has been three times already, I'll be back in the routine. I might just go swimming one more time. Thanks for all the suggestions and encouragement. Stay safe out there folks.
