I've been looking at the Triban 540 Flat Bar (and before that the 520) and notice that most sizes (including the M that I'd be after) are unavailable online. Is this not unusual or could the range be being refreshed? Is this perhaps not a good time to be buying?

Is this not unusual or could the range be being refreshed? Is this perhaps not a good time to be buying? It is simultaneously an excellent and terrible time to buy a bike! If you want something specific, its a terrible time. If you want something to fit a bill but have various options, it'll be cheap - there are bargains out there. Problem is, next season's bikes will be out before Christmas, so everyone is clearing their old stock.

Last time I looked the 540 flat bar used the older style Tiagra. Perhaps they are going to relaunch with the new version. Something similar happened with the 540 when 105 went 11 speed.

The current 540s have the new 4arm chainset so assuming it's the new shifters / mechs

Not sure why there's a problem online, there's stock on the continent that can be ordered by the stores (we have 2 med in stock at Nottingham). Only the Large are unavailable at the moment and they are due in end Oct.

Out of interest, when are new Triban models released? Is a new 520 due soon?

They should be out in the spring, some Feb, some April I think. New 100 commuter with single chainring New 500 with extra tyre clearance (in RED!) Not sure when the 520 will be updated (I'm not at work now) but should have the new wheels currently on the Ladies version and new colours when it is.

... New 500 with extra tyre clearance (in RED!)... Sounds like the bike that launched 100 000 posts will be back. Prepare for internet meltdown people!

Will this be a new frame and forks or just the current 520/540 frame and forks painted red and finished off with bargain basement parts like the original red T3 I wonder?

The original iconic RED that launched a thousand cycling careers was the T3 not the 500. Here is mine back in March 2013. It was still original apart from the wheels and tyres. Seems a long time ago now. I still have the frame and forks but everything else has been changed or upgraded.

Another post from Peter Lazarus in the FB group Today, the b'Twin road bike manager rode this 2017 model in the "gravel" race at the roc d'azur. It will be our new entry level Road bike for 2017. Did I forget to mention that it only costs 260 euros. It comes with 28mm tyres as standard and can easily accommodate tyres up to 35mm.

Is that shifter mounted on the bar top?

Hi Chas, Thanks for such a great info.
I'm currently looking for a gravel/adventure bike and i was eagerly waiting for btwin to announce one in the coming months, since it's so fashion right now. Do you think they'll release a triban with disk brakes, slightly more relaxed geometry, and good clearance (35mm seems really cool, is that with or without mudguards?) ?.
Right now i'm on the bridge of purchasing a 520 and replace with bigger tires or wait for new models from btwin.
