Pfft! Slicks or bust mate! slicks are fine in the wet unless you were >90mph... which, lets face it, you weren't. Doesn't mean the compound can grip in the wet though. Haha! Aye! I was joking with my original comment! To be honest, these are the Hutchinsons that came with the bike which are pretty average - I should have swapped the Vittoria Rubinos off the Triban before I sold it - but I'll probably upgrade the tyres at the end of next month, but the Hutchinson's fine for now with the better weather kicking in.

Can I just ask, what is this 'cleaning' thing you are all talking about? Is this something I can buy in Decathlon? How expensive is it?

I've had my Alur for just under 6 months now. About the direct mount brakes: 1. They give a more powerful feeling than more conventionally mounted brakes. 2. The rear mounted brakes does pick up crud, but this is not massively different from normally positioned brakes. 3. Adjusting the rear mount brakes is made significantly easier using a bike stand- I found a youtube video on adjusting direct mount brakes really helpful. Overall, the bike is brilliant- cannot believe how good it is at the price it's offered.

Just picked up the Ultra 700 AF which has the same rear brake at the Alur. Can someone reassure me it's okay that the brake cable is like this?

Looks fine, probably could be a little shorter, but doesn't look problematic.

I've just seen one like this at work and realised that whoever swapped the brakes over (they come to us L/H front) has replaced the outers in the wrong order, the longer section should be at the top. Provided you have enough cable at the top to turn the bars fully then it shouldn't be a problem. It would be easy to cut it a bit shorter, more or a faff to swap back but you could take it back and ask them to do it.
