Sell your current bike to offset the cost of the new one. Can't get rid of the Triban DelB ! Need the MTB for bad weather. Maybe I could offer to sell Mrs PiB's ?

I can only justify looking at it by seriously considering not purchasing an annual car park permit for work (at two thirds the cost of the Mach). That would definitely mean more commutes next year so I'm hoping it might be a win-win.

I'm 6'1 on a 57 after feeling a bit too stretched on my T5 in a 60. However, at that price there would be a serious risk I could have made the 59 fit!

Ah, a compact fit advocate - as you say, you could make it work though.

Del is fooling himself, mainly because he's committed elsewhere; understandable really, we let people do that though - every day's a school day, it's a broad church etc !

The fit is good and I don't feel stretched on it but would probably have chosen a 59 if the option was there. As for the Mach 700 at that price - unbelievable value.

Well, it's happened. Now I have to find room for a Mach 700. In the end I managed to try a 59, a 57 and 55 in the Mach frame (not all 700s). 59 just wasn't going to work due to lack of adjustment at the seatpost from the extended seat tube on the Mach frame. Even with the top part of the seat post fixture removed so the seat was really slammed it felt oversized. The 130mm stem was probabaly too long, though stretch didn't seem so much of an issue, but it's so hard to tell riding round the store. The Carlos Fandango like super-wide handle bars made it feel odd though. The 57 felt like it would be just right after several laps of the store but then I couldn't track down a 57 available anywhere. The 55 felt quite compact but with a lot more room to manoeuvre at the seat and bars. I managed to track down a 55 so that's what I have. The Deca size chart suggests I'm on the cusp of 55 and 57 based on height and inside leg and with some ride time and seat adjustment I'm sure I can nail it. I figured reach can be worked on through adjustments at the stem. Just had time for a token gesture ride in work clothes and shoes while on the way home with the bike, going up a couple of short inclines (8% and 5%) near our church building where I was preparing the pool for a baptism on Sunday morning. Equalled my best 3rd place time up the steeper one despite easing off on the flat section at the top because I forgot where the segment ended. Didn't have a previous time on the other incline but I made the top 5 of 50 plus riders behind some of the local fast crew. A lighter carcass as well as a lighter bike must have helped. Far too early to comment on the bike just yet, but I'm smiling and the sun is shining this morning..... Edit: The T3 will stay in the family. The plan is to set it up for Master D who wants to get out on the road more next year. He doesn't know this yet...

That's a good size for you Chris - I'd set the T3 up as your bad weather bike if there's doubt about its usage; it'll prolong the life of the 700 and make sure it's always ready for enjoying on the more decent days.

Thanks Toby. I think it will work well. Notched the saddle up a couple of times on today's ride and I think it's now at a height where you will approve. Think it needs some work on reach up at the front end.
