No chance round here on Sunday. Most of the roads round here will be closed due to the Tour. Will be a case of chilling and waiting to see if our house appears on screen from the overhead helicopter! That will be the recorded stuff. I'll be on the hill in Blackley near Ainley Top, just before the peloton hits the roundabout and cruises into Huddersfield. I'll wave!!! Things are getting exciting here now. Yellow bikes lining the streets, bunting everywhere. Should be quite a spectacle

What we're discovering here, is a split between those who say it's not going to happen and those who say they'll give it a go ... perhaps we should also also promote the Eddy Mercyx philosophy of not worrying too much about the distance and frequency, just get out and ride. ... but equally, for the long termers and the aspiring, time to dig in a bit if you can! It's not easy this stuff but then what's out there worth having that is? "Pain is a big fat creature riding on your back. The farther you pedal, the heavier he feels. The harder you push, the tighter he squeezes your chest. The steeper the climb, the deeper he digs his jagged, sharp claws into your muscles."Scott Martin

I'll be tagging my strava uploads as tdf1 tdf2 tdf3 etc. Mainly so everyone can see clearly when I fail haha. I shall have a go though.

It's just for fun, if you only get through half the rides you plan but do a few more then it's a result ! I think what's highlighted immediately is the level of effort it requires to cycle the thing - I've only asked for 1/2 an hour for each day they ride ... they need to be clocking good miles for three weeks.

I really like this idea. I am really struggling to get out at the moment. practical rather than motivational reasons - got up yesterday at 5:15 to go for an early one, just about to leave when the little boy decides he wants to get up early too. I'm just going to have to get creative - I do a little ride around town most days doing jobs, maybe i could fit a little run down the valley too. In the spirit of pushing it, I'm going to actually really give an effort on a segment and see how fast I can get. www.strava.com/segments/1402260. The little climb up from the reservoirs will be familiar to those on the BROC ride. great little climb, not too hard, although it's part of the local TT course so I wont KOM! I have already done a couple of efforts up there and am 49th currently. Under 4 mins would get me into top 25 and on the first page of the leaderboard. - so there is a totally unscientific and random target. Just need that tailwind =P.

Yeah. I'll give it a go, Rads. Good for motivation. I'll also be tagging the Strava posts with TDF 1 etc. The pro's still go out on rest days so I'll try to do those as well.

You don't have to match the distance and elevation though, just in case you were thinking of trying - might struggle to find suitable hills on the mountain stages anyway.

Thats a good shout Radchenister ! I don't want to over complicate things, but is there any way in Strava to create a TDF challenge? Or are there any options to set up a challenge in the Triban Owners section?

Just keep your own records I reckon, we already know @davefy7 will do more than most, it's just a bit of fun, not a comp.

Ride 1 will be this evening for me. Working this morning then there's the small matter of watching stage 1 of the race itself.

I managed to get a 45min baby sitter late in exchange for a pizza and footy, so I'll be out under the streetlights this evening - there's a nice well lit lap I can treat as a 10mile TT if I do 5 laps less than 5 mins ride from home.
