I'm planning on changing my Sora triple to a compact double.
It will cost the following to swap.
Sora £50 Tiagra £90 105 £110
Which would you choose?

I'll be going 105 in time.

I went Tiagra, with 10 speed trickle down and transitional overlaps, Tiagra and 105 is pretty close since 2012.
If your fitness and power is good then a double makes sense, most riding I do is on the big ring, only drop to small to climb proper hills.

I see 12-25 or 12-27 with just the last cog being different. I never used the small ring on my triple, so possibly 12-25 is what I'd order at the moment.

I went 12 - 30 as I'm doing hilly longer rides more these days, hit over 20%+ regularly in the Cotswolds and Wales. Want to increase cadence for track cycling, suits very well, good functionality for road riding anywhere I fancy. Going over 'The Keeper's' out of Blaenavon and down to Abergavenny tomorrow at about 70km from home, I want something that I know I can sit and spin with as there's still a long way to go after that.

The only reason I didn't go Tiagra is looks (just my opinion.) I was looking at 105 and Sram Apex as an alternative. Budget restraints though.
I need up with an R600, which is listed as a ''none group' crankset. The R600 is basically a two your old Ultegra design with SGX chainrings. There are others such as the R565 which is again a 'none group' and very similar to the current 105.

Yeah was really tempting, but I prefer the black components like Sora and 105. Best price I've ever seen for a crankset that though! Wonder why Tiagra is silver only. Well I just ordered the 105 groupset. On for quite a nice bike really now Absolutely no more money being spent on it though. I'm somewhere between £7-800 for it now good god.

Oh nooo it's the pretty accurate cost to me after selling my Sora groupset on eBay. And finding good deals on groupsets.
I bought the new 105 groupset for £260. Can sell the Sora groupset for £150.

Fair play if sell the sora for 150, I've seen 2nd hand 105 sets go for that...

I did the reverse: switched from the compact to the triple. It was not a choice, but my bike with the compact was stolen and the new one had the triple (T5).
I have to admit that I'm feeling really better with 39 instead of 34. 34 was always too hard or too soft (too soft in the big part of conditions), while 39 allows me to do almost everything with it. In the rares cases where I can't with 39, I shift 30, that is perfect.
I'm 180 cm for 80 kgs, so I have a good power to use the 39 untill the slope is lower than 8-9%, but my weight force me to use 30 whe the slope is more than 9-10%.

:/
If the 34 turns out to be pants, I guess I can change the inner ring to a normal 39 I guess.

You will find the 34 to be great. You'll be in the 50 more anyway.
