Do you think your carbon forks are as comfy as the original steel? I know they are lighter and look a lot better but I was surprised how smooth the steel ones are compared to the alloy/carbon fork equipped bike I tried.

Well if he answers positive I'm just going to pretend he doesn't really mean it and is only saying it to make us jealous. Which he is making me anyway

Ian, i really like your bike. I would like to know what was the most important upgrade, the one that you think have made the most difference.

I have another question: your cassete have 9 speeds, but your shifters have only 8 speeds... How did you solved the incompatibility?

Ian, i really like your bike. I would like to know what was the most important upgrade, the one that you think have made the most difference. The best upgrade was the compact chainset. It give a realy good option for all types of riding. The cassette is still 8spd, just the chain is 9spd as it's thinner on the outer edges. The inner gaps in the links are the same.

Are these the only carbon forks that fit the bike or are there any other options? What about carbon forks from the China?

Are these the only carbon forks that fit the bike or are there any other options? What about carbon forks from the China? Lots of forks will fit. You need a 1 1/8th steerer tube. The only thing to make sure is the crown race (if already fitted to the new ones) is compatible with the bearings in your frame. You can of course change the race from the old forks.

The offset of the forks is the same of the originals?

The offset of the forks is the same of the originals? No, they bring the front wheel about 25mm closer to the frame. So it sharpens the steering up a bit.

New pedals fitted today: Shimano PD-R550 SPD-SL a bargain at £35 from Evans Cycles, come complete with yellow cleats. They are basically the same design as the 2013 105. (105 are now a carbon composite) with a resin body and the same axle and bearings as the PD-R540 they will eventually replace as the entry level Shimano pedal. Available in black or grey, I figured grey might look cosmetically better over time... This is how they hang naturally, they engage really easily, better than the 540s I feel, the hole at the nose is a bit wider and more 'hooked' New cleats fitted ready for next outing, placed in exactly the right position as I had marked the old cleat with a scratch on the base of my shoe, so replacement aligns with that.
