Picked up two new front lights off eBay, one was from the UK and one form China. Price at around £20 each i decide to get both as one came with a headband so i can use for fishing and camping etc.
Both lights have very bright LED's, they're so bright i dazed myself when i decided to look directly into one of them (school boy error!). With the the lights being so bright it's a good idea to have them shining down on the road rather than directly in front of you. The reason for buying such bright lights for me was to have the road in front of me illuminated and still use my small flashing light to draw attention to myself. Both lights came with a battery pack, charger and case to strap the batter to your bike frame.
The CREE XML XM-L T6 is a single LED and has a more concentrated bright spot. It has three setting, high, low and flashing. On high the light was nice and bright on the dark lanes and lit up the road quite well, the more you angle the light up the more the concentrated bright spot spreads out. Not sure of the battery life as yet but there was no problem having it on full for just over an hours ride (will test battery life at some stage). This light was from a UK seller and arrived within a week.
The CREE XML U2 LED has two separate LED's and the light is spread out more which after testing them both i seem to prefer this one. Again this one has three setting, high, medium and low (no flashing on this one) This comes with a bigger battery pack probably due to the two LED's. This came from China and arrived 11 days after plaint the order.
I did try to take a few photos on tonights ride to give you an idea of all the setting but this proved quite difficult and the quiet dark country lane turned out to be rather busy so i had to be quick and take photos in-between cars passing. I will try again another night.
Lights Off - CREE XML U2 LED is the greens light on the left and the CREE XML XM-L T6 is on the right.
