A Deda Zero 100 seatpost has just arrived. It looks nice but it weighs 256g. It was advertised as 'about 207g' on CRC.
This really vexes me. £50 for a posst that I thought was going to be a lot lighter. Could of bought the Thomson one for the same price that is less than 200g. Or one for half that that is 40g heavier.
What are the chances of getting them to partially refund a bit, do you reckon?

Could just return it under distance selling regulations and go for the thomson one?
Weighing 20% above what they advertised is a bit unreasonable, probably counts as false advertising.

Could do but I have the Zero 100 handlebars and stem now. I like the matching bits LOL. Emailed them, will see what they say. If they won't refund a bit I'll return it and get the Thomson.

Chain Reaction are pretty good folks - can't see it being any more than an innocent error and also think they'll not have any qualms about taking it back.

The weights of many items are wrong on websites - they get copied about all over the place and no-one bothers to check at the publishing end.
Another thought - seatposts are sometimes weighed with and without clamps.

Maybe not the right place for this, but when bike weights are quoted they're presumably for an average size. I guess the weight of a larger frame will inevitably be greater (and often that comes with a longer stem, longer cranks which each add a few grams). How much does the weight of a Triban vary between a 54cm and 58cm frame, say?

I remember my 57cm T3 with original components except the r501 wheels was 10.25kg. I think most peoples 54cm with some upgraded wheels is just below 10 kg? Its only a small amount of alluminium tubing thats different.
All the stock bits like handlebars stem etc are actually pretty lightweight I've found when changing bits.

All the stock bits like handlebars stem etc are actually pretty lightweight I've found when changing bits. That's why it costs so much to loose a kg from the Tribans. So far the biggest weight saving and benefit seems to be better / lighter wheels. Appx £170 will get you a 0.6kg weight saving over the stock wheels - and because that weight is rotating - the benefit feels much more.

Ended up with a £10 voucher, took 4 emails lol.
At first they did not understand the problem and chinned me off. Spent £50 on a lightweight seat post, but it turns out I could of bought a post that weighs the same for half that, as they had lied about the weight. So if you are buying components based on weight, it's a good idea to weigh them, so you are not made a mug of.

I love them, for £66 I don't care about wrecking them. Lighter than the RS30 everyone has started bumming off, at half the cost. My front one with Gatorskin tyre, conti tube, and skewer is 1303g and the rear with same plus 9spd cassette is 1818g.

Is 50 grams gonna make that much of a difference or is it more about the principle?
