So here's my predicament... After lots of looking I sorted out myself a cycle to work deal for a new T7 (with much excitement). However decathlon repeatedly messed me around saying it was going to be in stock 2 weeks. 2 months later - it will now be upto another 6 weeks! (i was planning to do a sprint triathlon on the 22nd and i would rather do it on my shiny new bike) Decision time: - -Wait for my T7...
- -Ask decathalon if I can upgrade to an FC3...
- -Or cancel my voucher and shop elsewhere...
Questions: -What are peoples thoughts on the FC3? -Are carbon frame much more fragile than aluminium ones (not planning anything but just generally)?-Can i put panniers on an FC3 (i know this may be sacrilege ) even if i had to bodge it with p-clips or something similar. Would only be very occasionally when I plan a long trip and wouldn't be heavy weights. -If not decathlon, any other bikes for Β£600 come close to a t7 in terms of spec?
cheers

nothing touches the t7 price wise, to get the same spec - ie 6061 alu front triangle, carbon fork and rear stays, tiagra 10sp gruppo you are looking at the pinarello fp uno at roughly 1250 a shot
the fc3 looks tidy but one spill and its gone, great if a pro team are paying for your ride but not so good if you do that in your 2nd week of riding it, carbon is what it is, expensive next gen materials that cost a premium but dont make your legs any less sore, besides the fc3 and t7 weights are near identical
decathlon had better watch really, they are selling a 5hitload of bikes and making it more accessible to the masses but if they are building this reputation of crappy lead times and constant revisions of lead times, along with their dire online stock info, they might end up sending a load of impatient cyclists of to halfrauds or worse, tesco

The only thing I can say about the FC3 is that it is an unusual fit found it really difficult to get a proper sizing when I tried it out. I am now swaying towards the T7a although I don't fancy the waiting times. Good luck with the purchase and for an extra Β£150 you could upgrade wheels and still be quids in. Let us know how you get on you could always do what some on here have done and email head office direct quoting TOC.

Where are you located James? I was in Decca in Reading on Friday and they had ay least three there including a 60 which is my size and a bit tempting but I haven't paid off the T3 yet.

www.pinkbike.com/video/243228/Found this an interesting watch. Carbon will require a larger force to break than aluminium, although small crashes etc which may not break the frame will cause the carbon to fail quicker than the same treatment would on an aluminium if reading the comments on that video is anything to go by.

I would probably wait for the T7 if they think that they are getting any. I have just returned from a long trip to France and I visited the largest Decathlon (Lille - HQ/Campus) and also the BTwin Village. I took the FC for a spin and it is very nice, but an aggressive racing geometry. Decathlon are missing a sportive or long distance geometry road bike in carbon from their range.
I noticed that the T7 is only sold in France online and not in store, so I am not sure if this is an indication of the limited supply.
Finally, I hope to get some time to write up and share the experience of the visit, but for now, I did get a peak (and a couple of photos) of a red T3, carbon forks, with a microshift drive train (including triple chain set) and sliver metal shifters! I don't know if this is someone playing around in the workshop/factory or if it is something to come. They have no Red T3s for sale, but someone had to set this up ... Intriguing.

Getting more tempted just to wait. Cycle to work havnt clarified if I can change any details of the voucher.
How did you get your t7?
I'm in London and my voucher is for Surrey keys.
If I do wait it better not be a disappointment.

Wasn't there someone here who was promised a T7 and ended up with a FC3? I would try my luck but then lightening doesn't strike twice in the same place. I would go for the FC3 if I had the money.

He's right as usual and I have to face it, the FC3 is a sportive bike not a communter. So it's all about application and in this case I don't think a full carbon bike is suited for cycle 2 work.
