What the bike snobs you mention, usually fail to realise is that some people are not so sad as to spend a massive amount on a bike, and have other, probably more interesting pasttimes to spend money on!
I think bikes are a bit like cars. Quite often just an extension of your ego.

Unfortunately I've experienced a lot of snobbery and I've only had my red for about 6 weeks. I'm already onto my 3rd bike club because there were too many snooty sneerers at the first 2. It's good to beat them but there's no point in riding with people when there's this condescending undercurrent all the time. On Sunday we'd got about 30 miles into a 60 mile club run and one tosser says "So your btwin's held up so far then?" Strange that he of all people should have said it because the day before his chain had broken on a short 20 mile club run. I guess they'll always be ignorant gits though.

We are !!! ... we've hijacked a 'bike snobbery' thread and changed the subject onto things more fun - frankly I couldn't give a flying what people think and won't be joining any club that has 'attitudes'; I am fussy who I ride with anyway - the good folks on here have been great so far and when out with my serious mate, we only do fast overtaking and there wasn't time to look at what bikes they were on (so far anyway). I have only been overtaken recently by the bloke from GCN and his mates, when the TOC crew were climbing out from Chew to Nempnett Thrubwell and we were being sociable at the time, chatting etc. so that doesn't count ... and I like his show ... and he's an ex pro !!!
