I'm more interested in establishing eye contact and giving them a friendly wave and smile than looking at what they are riding. It's a shame that a lot of the camaraderie is disappearing from the roads. Quite a lot of cyclists can't be arsed to even nod an acknowledgement these days and look thoroughly miserable while pursuing their sport. C'est la vie. I agree. I try to wave at most people and while the majority smile and wave back you always get at least one door git who looks at you like you just peed in his cheerios.

Really annoys me when people don't return the wave. Even if you're struggling you can grimace and nod. I think most of those guys are completely oblivious to the etiquette.

On the few alps trips I've done on the mountain bike, me on my entry level Stumpjumper FSR have "rinsed, according to the guide" some of the Β£3000 Nicolais and their owners. I crashed a lot. never bothered cleaning until departure day and suffered no mechanicals apart from bent mech hangers. Meanwhile they faff around, delicate components break, fancy brake pads eating through discs! I have changed pads ONCE in 8 years. Maybe I should brake more!
On a road bike I'm gonna get thrashed though!

Breezed past a guy in the full kaboose on my local cat 4 climb at the weekend, all very amicably, a mutual hello as we both knew the hill that lay ahead. I stopped at the top a couple of miles on to wait for the rest of my group and he caught up with me a few mins later and asked if all was well. That's more the attitude I encounter round these parts, long may it live. Am sure there are snobs too but haven't noticed them, I'm pretty focused on my own thing.

the grabbing hand grabs all it can, all for themselves afterall....its a competative worldif you have a triban you have the the sneering rights over budget bike riders, if you have a triban, orbea riders have the sneering rights over you i dont subscribe to that personally but that is the fact of the matter, not just bikes either, cars, houses, salaries, wanger size best thing to do is laugh it off, suck up some air and go and beat the sneerer, if you can, great, if you cant well you arent on the 8k bike and that is the reason why isnt it
