I was phoned this morning by the courier company to say my new T5a would arrive this afternoon.Got really excited and got my workstand out, took my pedals off my other bike and a few other bits and bobs..The courier arrived and opened his side door of the wagon and my heart sank as a bike box that was batterd and all taped up sat there for me.I asked him to wait while i opened the box, first thing i noticed was the lights were fitted and the pedals, thats strange i thought, We took it out of the box and the wheels and tyre's looked new it looked really clean. Then i noticed a big fat scrape on the top tube . So ended up refusing the parcel.. Got The mrs to email decathlon.fr as she has a degree in French and to be fair they phoned back within 5mins. They promised to get another one out to me by Monday as there are not any instore in 200km radius!! So best put the pedals back on my old bike and fire up the bbq

Good lesson here. Don't just sign the couriers form. I think once you take possession you make it more difficult for yourself. I just need to remember this myself next time.
Was he ok waiting while you opened the box? Not that it matters because I'd make him wait lol

He was fine as he comes to work with parcels every day (car parts) and it is the done thing in France if its a large parcel even though they sometimes huff and puff as the French do,But by the state of the box i do not think many people would of signed for it without checking.

When I bought my Triban 3 from Decathlon in Warrington I also bought my wife the Rock Rider 5.0 (keep her sweet you know the score :-p). Long story short it was the wrong size and when we returned the following week the bike they offered us had a small scratch. The manager was rather rude to us so I told him to give me my money bike for the wife's bike, as I did not want to do business with him. A letter of complaint later and the Customer Service Manager, who was very helpful sanctioned us getting the Rock Rider 5.1 for the same price as the 5.0 (£50 saving) and £30 worth of accessories to compensate us for our troubles.
Moral - Stick to your guns, do not accept substandard and do not be afraid to complain.

Another box arrived today, my heart sank again as the box was in a terrible state. But on inspection only the bell and the lights were marked(They really need to sort the packing out)So that will do me.. set saddle and flipped stem(prob flip back in the morning) and a 40km ride. The ride is above and beyond my expectations as the carbon forks seem to mop up most vibration.Still getting used to the gears.Taking it very easy on the brakes as they are the opposite way round as it is bought in France. Well pleased with it

The box it comes in isn't or does not look like it's designed for courier shipment. Normally they'll be shipped in bike pallets where they are always flat until they arrive in store. I would expect lots and lots of padding as we all know couriers throw it around like nothing.

I would expect lots and lots of padding as we all know couriers throw it around like nothing. I think half the problem is the handle bars were mounted and stretching the box so it has no chance of getting close to shutting (a good 20cm open)so all the tape over the top of the box snaps. So if they removed the pedals also it would sit in a lot better in there.. You spend a lot of hard earned money on a quality bike, just wish they could sort the packing out even if a good quality box costs another £5-£10 i would pay it without a thought!

Cosybike, your box is mint compared to what mine looked like!
Luckily only the shifters/ rear mech showed any signs of scratches, which Decathlon sorted out without any fuss.
My recommendation is to buy instore, rather than to have delivered. Until the courier/warehouse issue is sorted.
