Hi all,
I picked up a Triban 3 back in 2015 and as a bit of a casual summer cyclist only just discovering this forum.
My Triban has served me well in the intervening years with me pootling round on occasional weekend rides and once a fortnight in the summer when on a later work shift i'd use it for the 28mile round trip to and from work. My bike is a 51cm frame with 650 wheels, I am just a smidge under 5'8" tall and think this bike was probably a bit on the small side for me, I did try and partially address this by exchanging the handle bar stem for a longer one than it came with but cant say I've ever really found riding the bike uncomfortable, just a shame the 650 wheels meant less choice when wishing to change things on it the only other change i made was to fit a pannier to it for my work bag.
Sadly I have shifted to working from home post pandemic so haven't really used the bike much in the last couple of years but Im wanting to get back into things over the summer, I have been considering buying a new bike that is perhaps a bit bigger with 700 wheels, but also happen to have a second brand New unused Triban 3 sat in the garage (as a casual summer cyclist its a bit silly to admit I actually own 3 bikes, have a cheap trail bike as well). I bought the second Triban 3 in 2016, its the exact same size as my original one and intention was to give it to one of my boys when they were older - suffice to say they didn't want it preferring mountain bikes and also their growth spurt meant at 6 foot it was definitely too small for them.
So I am in a quandary about whether to sell this unused bike to fund purchase of a larger framed bike or given my old one has been OK size wise for the most part maybe I should instead consider switching out the 650 wheels for some 700 ones (would that even be possible?) and would doing so make for it to feel more of an idealised fit for me?
